How This Role impacts Live Oak and its People

Data is core to the future of Live Oak. To help the bank achieve its strategic goals, the Data & Analytics team is focused on driving business value through data that creates a sustainable competitive advantage for our company. The Head of Data Management & Governance will play a core part in these efforts by ensuring that our data assets are protected, understood, trusted and accessible.

What You’ll Do at Live Oak
Live Oak has recently embarked on an initiative to build our next-gen data platform that will power the company's analytics and modeling going forward. We are looking for a Head of Data Management & Governance to help make this initiative a success by building out our capabilities in governance, quality, mastering, and literacy of our data. If the opportunity to build a management and governance program the right way from inception in a modern data architecture (AWS, Databricks, dbt, Fivetran, Atlan/Alation) is enticing to you, then we’d love to speak with you!

This individual will act as a player/coach, growing our small Data Management team while implementing policies and best practices that enable our data consumers to spend time thinking about the meaning of data rather than how to get correct data and provide confidence to our board and regulators that our data is being managed properly. The ideal candidate will demonstrate an interest in understanding the strategic needs of the business and will need to communicate clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences and operate in a fast-paced environment with tight deadlines.

How You’ll Do It

  • Develop, implement, and maintain data management policies, procedures and best practices across the enterprise
  • Drive vendor selection process for, implementation of, and ongoing management responsibility for the data catalog, data quality, and master data management tools
  • Manage the day-to-day team and operations of resources within our data organization including governance, data quality, and master data management analysts
  • Build strong relationships with Governance Leads and other business leaders to understand their data needs
  • Define and interpret data/metrics/KPIs, analyze results, and provide insights to determine operational impact, trends and opportunities across the organization.
  • Partner with the Data Engineering and Information Security teams to drive implementation of data governance and data security related processes
  • Establish and evangelize best practices, frameworks and processes for data management, metadata cataloging and quality controls

Required and Preferred Experience

  • 10+ years of experience within data governance, data management and data quality with 5+ years of experience managing/leading teams
  • Knowledge of industry leading data quality and data management practices, preferably within banking or other financial services
  • Knowledge of data-related government regulatory requirements and emerging trends and issues
  • Experience with managing Data Governance frameworks and establishing methodologies, ideally within the context of Amazon’s Web Services (AWS)
  • Data Catalog experience with tools such as Alation or Atlan
  • Experience implementing MDM tools such as Reltio, Semarchy or Riversand
  • A seasoned professional with proven experience in leading/managing change to enable the full realization of data as a strategic company asset.
  • Strong understanding of data platforms, data engineering, data integration, data reporting/analytics, data science, MDM and Metadata management tools.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in ambiguous situations and have influence across organizational boundaries through excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Expertise within cloud data architecture, databases and tools; AWS, Snowflake, Informatica, Databricks, Kafka, Airflow, dbt, Fivetran, among others
  • Nice to have: Experience working with and supporting Data Science teams, including an understanding of the modeling process and lifecycle.
  • Work sponsorship is not supported, now or in the future
  • If remote, must be able to work east coast hours (8-5 pm EST)
