Head of Product Analytics & Data Science

Biotechnology is rewriting life as we know it, from the medicines we take, to the crops we grow, the materials we wear, and the household goods that we rely on every day. But moving at the new speed of science requires better technology.

Benchling’s mission is to unlock the power of biotechnology. The world’s most innovative biotech companies use Benchling’s R&D Cloud to power the development of breakthrough products and accelerate time to milestone and market.

Come help us bring modern software to modern science.

ROLE OVERVIEW

We’re looking for an Analytics & Data Science leader (team manager) with strong business instincts, management experience, and mastery of analytics. You will apply your skills to lead a team of analysts in our efforts to better understand how our customers use Benchling and how that usage relates to both customer and business value. Ultimately you will help us make better product and business decisions.

YOUR IMPACT

  • Partner and collaborate with Benchling’s product, engineering, and strategy leaders to develop data-informed perspectives on strategic trade-offs, identifying the highest impact opportunities for in-depth analysis in service to Benchling’s company strategy and product priorities.
  • Lead a team team of data analysts and data scientists, building a data insights roadmap that spans metrics eventing, data modeling, and data infrastructure across an extremely broad product surface area.
  • Collaborate closely with key stakeholders across the business, including data engineering, customer experience and support, business systems and IT, financial planning and analysis, and marketing.
  • Build the best possible understanding of our customers and their interaction with our products through in-depth analyses of user interaction and engagement.
  • Through a deeper understanding of our customers, advocate for and drive novel explorations of our data to identify and understand emergent trends and opportunities, making recommendations to improve both the product and the broader business.

HOW YOU WILL SUCCEED

  • You will sweat the details and hold a high bar for quality of output, ensuring that the data and analyses that your team produces are trustworthy.
  • You’ll drive a culture that not only services business or product data requests, but constantly refines and improves the questions we’re asking, cementing your team as thought leaders within the company.
  • You will measure the impact of your own team and work by defining success metrics, tracking progress, and taking an approach of constant iteration and improvement to optimize for outcomes.

ABOUT YOU

  • You have extensive experience applying analytics to drive positive impacts on company-level business and product decisions.
  • You’ve successfully built and managed top-tier analytics teams serving the needs of fast-paced, rapidly scaling organizations.
  • You have a strong ability to influence without authority, leveraging data to tell compelling stories that help build decision confidence.
  • You have extensive prior experience in data manipulation and statistical programming languages (e.g. SQL, R, Python) and cloud data environments (e.g. AWS).
  • You have a growth mindset, and are able to change your mind and readily admit mistakes. You ask for and give direct feedback.
  • You are excellent at listening to others and articulating ideas in written and oral form, both for internal and external communication.
  • Ideally you have experience with both life sciences R&D and high growth software technology

Why are you being asked to complete this form?

Your answer will be maintained confidentially and not be seen by selecting officials or anyone else involved in making personnel decisions. Completing the form will not negatively impact you in any way, regardless of whether you have self-identified in the past. For more information about this form or the equal employment obligations of federal contractors under Section 503 of the Rehabilitation Act, visit the U.S. Department of Labor’s Office of Federal Contract Compliance Programs (OFCCP) website at www.dol.gov/ofccp.
