About Betterment:

Betterment is a leading, technology-driven financial services company that offers investing and retirement solutions for retail investors and investment advisors as well as financial wellness solutions, including a 401(k) for small and medium-sized businesses. Our growing team of 400+ is passionate about our mission to make people’s lives better. We’re headquartered in NYC, with hubs in Philadelphia and D.C, and offer in-office, hybrid, and remote working based on role and location.

About the Role:

At Betterment, we work constantly to maximize every dollar our customers have entrusted us with. Data plays a critical role in both business analytics and the customer journey. It’s core to everything from understanding our competitive position to our B2B sales funnel to our pursuits in acquiring retail customers, to how we monitor the performance and adoption of our products.

The analytics team operates with a 360-degree view of the company, partnering across the business to help shape strategy, identify opportunities and influence product decisions that create the best experience for our users. Projects range from creating beautiful dashboards that provide a pulse on the business to developing data infrastructure that enables the entire analytics team to answer key strategic questions such as growth, customer behavior and production adoption.

In this role, you will be a Lead Analyst with the ability to have a direct impact working across our business lines. You will partner closely with our product, engineering, finance, strategy, customer support and marketing teams to improve business performance.

We are looking to hire this role based in our NYC office location, where we offer hybrid working conditions.

A Day in the Life:

  • Collaborate with stakeholders such as product, marketing and sales to create actionable insights and recommendations for change through data-driven analysis
  • Partner with product management end-to-end on analytics: implement Segment tracking alongside engineering, quantify the impact of features through A/B testing, monitor performance and understand customer behavior
  • Create intuitive data visualizations that help senior leadership make key decisions
  • Build models to understand customer behavior, segmentation and natural language processing (NLP)

What We’re Looking For:

  • The powerful combination of technical expertise, curiosity and business acumen
  • Experience understanding customer behavior metrics, such as funnel conversion, user churn, lifetime value (LTV) and cross-sell metrics
  • A knack for distilling raw data into compelling stories with actionable recommendations
  • Willingness and ability to take ownership of critical business reporting
  • Experience creating and maintaining dashboards with Looker or other BI tools
  • Strong SQL skills and a desire to advance your technical abilities
  • Experience using product analytics tools such as Segment and Mixpanel
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work across disciplines while building rapport with stakeholders
  • Experience with experimentation and hypothesis testing

What Happens Next?

We expect to take a few weeks to review all applications. If we would like to spend more time with you, you will hear from us to arrange next steps. You can expect 3-4 sets of meetings with your future colleagues in the weeks following your application.

Throughout the interview process, we’ll look to learn more about your skills, experiences, capabilities, and motivators. Many of our interview questions will be behavioral, aimed at understanding how you might operate here at Betterment. We may ask you to complete a case study exercise or technical assessments, depending on the role, as we aim to collect a robust set of data points throughout the interview process.

On average, it takes us around 2-3 weeks to make a hiring decision, depending on your availability and sense of urgency. As a best practice, we aim to interview at least 3 final round candidates before making a hiring decision.

Please note that we’re unable to offer individual feedback during the interview process. We usually see 1,000+ applications for open positions, and our hiring team simply doesn’t have the bandwidth to offer personalized feedback to each candidate.

We recognize that interviewing for a new role is a big deal. We appreciate you giving us consideration as the next step in your career. Our Recruiting Team is here to support and advocate for you through the interview process, so please let us know how we can help.
