About the team:

The BlueLabs Data Science Team develops deep expertise and uses data to inform strategic advice to our clients. Our polling work designs, implements, and fields tools that power our analysis and messaging. We take a deep dive into research that looks at what motivates people to vote, buy a product, hold an opinion, and whether campaigns are successful. Our statistical research identifies areas where we can better assess the impact of various factors in the campaign and polling areas. Our fast-paced, impact-driven team conducts innovative analysis to support our clients’ work. We bring definition to challenging problems, creatively identify data sources, then design analytics that accurately measure impact and move the needle every day. We work in changing, ambiguous environments, so we embrace nuance, inclusivity, and complexity to deliver programs that work for the diverse groups of individuals who rely on us.


About the role:

The Polling Analyst helps prepare and program survey questionnaires, supports with the construction of samples, and digs into the results. They have a strong desire to collaborate in all aspects of polling to help our clients better understand their needs. They want to continue to refine our polling process to keep up with the latest innovations and challenges. This position reports to the Polling Manager.


In this position you will:

The Polling Analyst implements BlueLabs’ polling operations for specific clients including:


  • Working with the BlueLabs project teams to design our polling solutions, write questionnaires, and identify the right samples and key variables
  • Supporting the polling process, including programming survey questionnaires, pulling samples, tracking and monitoring surveys while in the field, and weighting the results
  • Preparing client deliverables such as toplines and crosstabs
  • Analyzing final results in concert with the team and develop insights for clients in presentation materials
  • Coordinating with team members on experiments, modeling and other analytics surveys
  • Collaborating with data scientists on polling methodology and work on research questions to improve our operations
  • Contributing to the greater progressive polling community
  • Working with and evaluating vendors
  • Such other reasonable tasks as may be assigned by management.


What we are seeking:

  • You are a stickler for detail and ensuring each element of the process gets done
  • You think ahead, working to anticipate potential roadblocks and address them early
  • You’re able to conduct a data analysis on tight deadlines where the problem is unstructured, or the guidance is open ended
  • You’re tenacious – you love facing down a challenge, and aren’t satisfied until it’s resolved
  • You understand how to distill requests for a lot of detail down to the most important points and find the most relevant information in a sea of facts
  • You can effectively communicate technical concepts to a non-technical audience, both in writing and verbally.
  • You likely have at least a bachelor’s degree; experience working in the polling field is a strong bonus
  • You are passionate about harnessing data-driven solutions to improve social outcomes
  • You can manipulate data and have worked with spreadsheet and presentation software (Excel, Google Sheets, PowerPoint, Keynote)
  • You may have experience with programming languages such as Python, R, SQL, and/or statistical software such as Stata, SPSS etc.


What recruitment looks like:

We expect to hire this position in September 2022. Successful applicants will complete three interviews, all virtual (HR conversation, small team, and panel). During the interview process, you will be asked questions to describe your background and experience relevant to the position. This may include providing examples of projects you worked on, tools or applications you've used, and knowledge you have applied.  We often look for explanations of "how or why" so it's helpful to have details ready.

The salary for this position is $67,000 annually.


While we have an office in Washington, DC, we are open to considering candidates from within the U.S.
