As a Psychometrician at BookNook, you will immediately play an integral role in designing, building, researching, and evaluating the assessment methodology of BookNook's online learning platform. You will lead the effort to evaluate and document the reliability and validity of BookNook assessments by designing field-testing studies and applying psychometric skills such as item analysis, DIF analysis, etc. to ensure adherence to the Standards for Educational and Psychological Testing. 

Additionally, you will work closely with the content and data science staff to develop innovative algorithms for tracking student progress and recommending lessons. Our vision is to reach the point where we can assess our students formatively and continually with enough accuracy to alleviate teachers' needs to perform regular formal assessments.

At BookNook You Will

    • Apply psychometric tools and statistical methods to critically evaluate the accuracy of BookNook assessments and leveling methodology
    • Design and implement research and analysis plans to externally validate BookNook reading growth data
    • Work with our data science team to develop new algorithms for evaluating student reading progress
    • Work with our content team to validate and align BookNook assessments with literacy standards

You are a good fit for this role if you have

    • Doctoral degree (Ph. D.) psychometrics, statistics, data science, or a related field, AND
    • 3 to 5 years of relevant practical experience working in a K-12 Ed Tech Company
    • OR Equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered
    • Proven understanding of the foundations of psychometrics including classical test theory and item response theory
    • Experience in using R, python, or equivalent to: clean and prepare data, run basic descriptive analyses, run psychometric analysis, prepare internal reports
    • Demonstrated skills in designing and conducting research studies
    • Subject-matter interest in early (K-8) literacy and/or numeracy
    • A strong sense of ownership and ability to work in a self-directed manner on a small and quickly growing team
    • A passion for teaching and our company mission. Many BookNook employees are former educators.
