The Opportunity
We are looking for a talented and driven Senior Analytics Engineer to be a key player in our new, quickly expanding, centralized data team. This person will work with a team of high-performing analysts, engineers, and cross-functional growth teams to build and enhance our data ecosystem.  You will apply software engineering best practices to the production and maintenance of analytics code to clean and transform raw data into consumable information and business logic. You’ll have total ownership over various ETL tools, data models and warehouses, and a core segment of our BI reporting. Our main technology stack currently includes Segment, Google BigQuery, dbt, and Looker.
You will be responsible for constructing end-to-end data pipelines, building data products within our quickly evolving data marts, ensuring data governance, remediating data quality issues, performing exploratory data analysis, and helping to support analysts and business stakeholders to streamline delivery of insights from our data. Your work maintaining and improving our infrastructure and architecture will support analysts working across all functions, both in growth and in student success.

Responsibilities

    • Own ingestion and transformation of data to support critical analytics & reporting capabilities for our business.
    • Be a core contributor to our DBT workflows and Looker instances.
    • Create frameworks and testing methodologies to maintain high data quality.
    • Work across the marketing, sales, and product tech stacks, doing what it takes to solve problems and see projects through to completion.
    • Help to define and improve our internal standards for code style, maintainability, and best practices for high-scale data infrastructure
    • Own reviewing, designing, and optimizing our data architecture and ETL pipelines
    • Focus on optimization of our Data Warehouse, and supporting platforms, spotting opportunities to reduce complexity and cost
    • Manage, coach, and mentor junior members of the data and analytics team
    • Support in designing and implementing data privacy and security best practices
    • Work with the Director of Data & Analytics to develop a strategy for how the data infrastructure will grow and scale as products & services release into production.
    • Support strategic decisions for our data analytics infrastructure such as tool selection and design
    • Drive data governance and measurement standardization across the company
    • Proactively and constructively question the status quo, influence change within the organization to enable growth
    • Understand the analytical objectives to make logical recommendations and drive informed actions.
    • Uphold our high analytics standards and bring consistency to the codebases and processes you will encounter

You

    • Have 5+ years of full-time work experience in analytics engineering and data modeling, as well as building data pipelines.
    • Are an expert in data warehousing, including slowly changing dimensions, change data capture, and normalized table schemas.
    • Are a proficient Python programmer with advanced experience in SQL; Preference for someone with experience with BigQuery, dbt, and ETL/ELT processes.
    • Are practiced with data visualization tools and creating mission-critical dashboards to enable functional teams to make decisions [Bonus if you have Looker experience]
    • Are adept at integrating multiple data sources using tagging and data platforms (i.e. Segment/RudderStack, Stitch/Hevo, Google Tag Manager).
    • Are accomplished working with Git, managing code repositories (Bitbucket), and setting up test automation.
