About the Role:

The Senior Data Engineer will be primarily responsible for delivering on the roadmap of the Data Platform and delivering data solutions. The primary mission of this platform is to continue to democratize data access at Flock Freight in a unified way via Data. The primary stakeholder of these products will be the Technology and Analytics teams consisting of analysts, data scientists and engineers. A successful engineer will collaborate closely with these teams to build a scalable and performant data platform and tooling to help scale the business.

Responsibilities: 

• Define data needs from analytics, data science, machine learning and product management into information to design relevant data platforms and tools to service these needs
• Design, develop and maintain scalable data pipelines and warehouses to support continuing increases in data volume and complexity
• Design and implement production-grade data pipelines and distributed streaming solutions
• Improve data models that feed business intelligence tools, increasing data accessibility and fostering educated decision making across the organization
• Deliver solutions from end-to-end, from sourcing data to implementing data models, pipelines, monitoring and quality assurance frameworks
• Write complex SQL queries and tune them for efficiency to quickly transform data into timely and actionable insights
• Take part in the interviewing and consideration of potential new team members
• Provide guidance and technical mentorship to new Flockers

Qualifications: 

• 3+ years of experience in data engineering and a proven track record of solving data problems at scale leveraging distributed data systems
• A good understanding of designing and building highly scalable Data warehouses, Data pipelines, Data models, and Data Lakes.
• Expert in SQL and optimizing complex queries
• Proficient in programming in Python
• Experience working with Snowflake, Redshift, PostgreSQL and/or other DBMS platforms
• Experience working with dbt
• Experience working with reporting and visualization tools such as Mode, Sigma, Tableau and/or other Reporting tools.
• Excellent communication, collaborative demeanor and ability to work in distributed, multi-functional teams with the ability to articulate a point of view.
