Overview:

The Data Product Owner for Data Governance helps to create and make decisions around both the vision and roadmap for the governing of data products, addresses concerns about the satisfaction of the data customers, and continuously measures and improves the quality and richness of the data her/his domain owns and produces. This is a great opportunity to work with an amazing technical data team and facilitate our collective mission to deliver actionable datasets at appropriate levels of curation for Innovation, Actuary, Business Intelligence, Data Science, and Software application data customers. You are a passionate advocate for your stakeholders and will drive the deliverables to completion. You are a true owner of the data products produced and are accountable for their level of analytical business value delivery.

What you’d be doing:

  • Develop and oversee the data governance lifecycle, from data element definition to stewardship execution .
  • Develop a deep understanding of current and future needs of our stakeholders.
  • Influence leaders and individual contributors on partner teams to adopt governance processes and practices based on the identified stakeholder needs.
  • Work collaboratively with a delivery team of Data Engineers, Analytics Engineers, Business Intelligence developers, Actuaries, and Catastrophe Risk Analysts to design and deliver products that provide the insights our stakeholders require to make strategic and tactical business decisions.
  • Work in close collaboration with Manager of Analytic Engineering to execute data governance and stewardship priorities.
  • Communicate technical concepts effectively across the organization. Groom data request backlogs and triage incoming tickets.
  • Facilitate requirements gathering and capture as meaningful chunks of work that can be executed.
  • Capture and summarize stakeholder needs and goals in clear and concise work packages.
  • Be accountable for the end-to-end delivery of your product.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders on product launch communication, training and enablement and ongoing product adoption tactics.
  • Provide ongoing support to stakeholders and end users of our data products.
  • Monitor ongoing use of data products to help the responsible platform partners make invest/divest decisions.
  • Monitor and evaluate product progress/quality at each stage of the process.
  • Work in close partnership with both data leadership and project management to ensure deadlines are met and data work products are of the highest utility and quality.

We’re looking for someone who has:

  • Bachelor’s degree, a background in Computer Science or related field is preferred but not required.
  • Experience as an analyst, ETL developer, or IT/data project manager
  • Experience working in an Agile (Scrum/Kanban/etc.) environment
  • Proven experience of working effectively with diverse stakeholders
  • Experience using Confluence, SharePoint, or similar tool for requirements capturing, deliverable socialization, or similar
  • Experience using JIRA, Asana, or other user story and task management tool
  • Excellent problem-solving and communication skills
  • Strong organizational & time management skills
  • Experience working with distributed teams across multiple time zones
  • Self-starter with a growth mindset
  • Familiarity with data engineering concepts such as ETL pipelines, data warehouse infrastructure, etc.

Ideal candidates also have:

  • Experience managing business partner data stewardship
  • Agile and/or project management certification(s)
  • 3+ years of Personal or Commercial lines carrier experience
