What’s the role?

As a Senior Data Scientist in Payments Buyer Experience you will be instrumental in creating the data-backed strategy of Etsy Payment’s Buyer Experience. The analyst will be responsible for crafting and maintaining foundational data reports that add insight into important metrics. This position acts as a thought partner to the other leaders in the Payments space and will have opportunities to shape the roadmap of Etsy into the future. This role will use A/B testing to determine the success of different product launches. We are looking for someone who understands how to weigh sophisticated opportunities, build robust data reporting tools, and is passionate about thinking and communicating these subjects. This is a full-time position working with the Senior Manager of Payments and Finance Analytics and the base salary range will be $130,000 - $168,000 USD per year. In addition to salary, you will also be eligible for an equity package, an annual performance bonus, and our competitive benefits that support you and your family as part of your total rewards package at Etsy. For this role, we are considering candidates based in the United States. You will have the option to work office-based, flex or remotely. What’s this team like at Etsy?

Payments and Finance Analytics (colloquially Money Analytics) is an analytics team committed to applying the techniques of data science and analytics to drive significant insights, including:

• Understanding the nuances of Etsy’s payment processing data and the myriad interactions with our financial systems.
• Building rich data sources of truth that interweave complex payments data and foundational data from across the Etsy ecosystem
• Finding and advocating for outstanding opportunities for Etsy’s growth that move critical metrics
• We are a remote friendly team - all of our collaboration is inclusive of folks in an office and on the screen

What does the day-to-day look like?

• Monitor and oversee the progress of A/B experiments
• Interpret data and results from experimentation and inquiries to determine iterative follow-ups
• Build foundational scripts using SQL and database skills
• Produce regular reports and analysis to communicate opportunities and trends using internal and external data sources
• Craft outstanding dashboards and visualizations using Looker
• Work with product managers to size the opportunities highlighted through discovery processes
• Participate in discovery sessions and contribute creative and data driven ideas for improvement
• Continually evaluate and refine your technical toolkit; teach what you learn to the team
• Possess a deep level of curiosity and appetite for learning, which drives you to finding outstanding solutions.

Qualifications

Qualities that will help you thrive in this role are:

• 4+ years experience as a data scientist or data analyst in which you have independently extracted meaning from big data sets with little engineering support.
• Fluency in both English and Spanish
• Mastery of SQL and proficiency in R/Python. Passionate to try new approaches to advance your technical skills. Bonus points for experience with Spark and Looker, Tableau, or other data visualization software.
• Deep understanding of experimentation theory and practice.
• Specialize in sophisticated analyses and regularly use statistical methods in your work
• Distill highly complex problems into narratives that are concise, actionable, and memorable, and express your recommendations with both conviction and finesse.
• Guided product teams to identify high-impact opportunities, set meaningful goals against key outcomes, and driven decisions.
• Passionate about reproducible work and have picked up tools to this end.
• Acted as a mentor, guiding others to make their own work better and more efficient.
