Job Description

About The Position 

KIPP’s Data & Analytics (D&A) team conducts collection, analysis, and reporting of high-quality data on KIPP schools, staff, students, and alumni. The Senior Manager, Data Systems & Collection will support our team’s efforts to collect and process data from KIPP regions and external partners, which enables us to track progress to mission-aligned goals and share actionable insights with key stakeholders to drive network improvement. The Senior Manager, Data Systems & Collection will play a critical role in streamlining existing collection and loading processes and develop new, automated data pipelines that ensure data flows seamlessly between regional and national data systems.

The Senior Manager, Data Systems & Collection will report to the Senior Manager, Data & Analytics and work collaboratively with teammates within D&A and across the KIPP Foundation and network.

Responsibilities 

  • Lead loading of KIPP region and third-party vendor data into national high school and alumni data systems 

  • Clean, match, load, and verify files received from vendors and regional teams 

  • Develop dashboards that allow end users to check the completeness and quality of submitted data 

  • Forecast potential data quality issues and ensure adequate consideration is given to these issues during process development 

  • Answer support tickets related to data quality in national data systems 

  • Support ongoing data quality assurance and monitoring in national high school and alumni systems 

  • Work in partnership with program teams to ensure collection of high-quality data for all data streams including counseling, high school and college enrollments, applications, and college and career paths 

  • Collaborate with program teams and engineers to improve existing requirements, ensuring data quality monitoring is embedded in our ETL processes 

  • Ensure data collection is as low-burden as possible to regional teams, by continually reevaluating our collection processes  

  • Support improvements to legacy systems 

  • Develop and implement MVP pipelines to improve current data collection and loading processes 

  • Work with program teams and engineers to translate learnings from pilots and legacy systems into business requirements, ensuring that data quality is an automated and embedded part of our end-to-end data loading processes (i.e., Salesforce, Overgrad) 

  • Support user acceptance testing of requirements 

  • Create dashboards that analyze disparate legacy systems to enhance data quality 

  • Drive operational excellence in data work 

  • Develop and support scalable, sustainable quality assurance practices to ensure high-quality and reliable data  

  • Maintain quality assurance processes and cross-train teammates when needed 

  • Ensure documentation of internal technical processes are maintained and updated

Experience and Qualifications 

Required:  

  • 6+ years formal coursework or work experience focused on data engineering, collection, reporting, and/or analysis 

  • SQL proficiency with ability to develop complex queries, scripts, view, and procedures 

  • Experience using Python to support automation of data extraction, wrangling, and/or mining 

  • Experience applying software engineering best practices to analytics code (i.e., version control, testing, CI) 

  • Experience developing and executing on data quality assurance processes 

Preferred:

  • Knowledge of data warehousing and data governance principles 

  • Experience building ETL/ELT processes using tools like Airflow, FiveTran, or SQL tasks and stored procedures 

  • Experience with the following (or similar) technologies: MSSQL, Salesforce, Jira, Zendesk, GitHub 

  • Familiarity with data visualization and business intelligence (BI) tools (e.g., Tableau, Power BI, Looker)

  • Travel requirements: May include up to 10% travel

Location 

It is preferred, but not mandatory for this role to be based out of a KIPP Foundation office.  This role also offers the option of working from a remote office full-time.  KIPP Foundation office is in NYC, Chicago, San Francisco, and Washington DC.

Compensation and Benefits.   

The salary range for this position is $100,000-$118,000, commensurate with experience.
