An emerging role within SOM, the Finance Analytics Engineer will work closely with the Global Analytics leader and CFO to carry out a thorough data analytics strategy strategy - incorporating data engineering, data manipulation, standardization and process creation, documentation. This person will have an opportunity to influence design and implementation of a financial data warehouse and a highly visible data reporting strategy.

The primary responsibility for this role will be to implement and oversee a data analytics and reporting strategy as it pertains to financial and business reporting. This includes implementing best practices, training analysts, and ensuring a high-level of data quality and control.

The ideal candidate will have significant experience (5+ years) with business intelligence, data warehouse technologies, and web service APIs. This is a hands-on role that requires both analytical and technical skills. The ideal candidate is a strong technologist able to conceive and implement full-scale projects with large impacts start to finish.

Position Responsibilities

  • Leading a data analytics strategy - including implementing best practice process and procedures, leading a financial data warehousing project, collaborating with the Office of Technology on the analytics pipeline as it relates to financial data, and maximizing our usage of third-party tools, such as visualization software.

  • Creating analytical models and in-depth analyses rooted in a strategic data approach and visualization and reporting best practices.

  • Implementing automation and utilizing streamlined reporting where to improve functionality and efficiency of all team members.

  • Identifying opportunities for improvement - through process/procedure, strategic use of data, upgraded systems development, improved reporting or otherwise - and create project plans that will address these issues.

  • Developing error and qa/qc reporting as necessary to ensure data quality throughout all of the financial and business reporting.

  • Working with multiple end-user groups, such as finance, accounting, leadership or marketing, to develop reporting and analysis programs.

  • Synthesizing business needs and creating business process maps used to build analysis and data models.

  • Fostering the development of a data culture - helping internal teams and clients make user­-driven, evidence-based decisions around finance, business strategy, marketing, and workforce.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Experienced in working on/with projects/products that utilize big data and advanced analytics technologies. Be comfortable and knowledgeable of a wide range of data warehouse technologies, including MySQL.

  • Demonstrated ability to solve large and complex application problems independently. 

  • Experienced in project management and proven capability to design and implement complex projects.

  • Expert SQL ability and proficiency with 1+ programming language (R or Python preferred)

  • Experience using data exploration and visualization tools (ex. Tableau, PowerBI, Cognos, R, Excel).

  • Strong knowledge of financial terminology, business model and trends around a professional service business. 

  • 5 years of work experience working with ERP, Deltek Vision preferred. Experience with Salesforce CRM, as well as marketing automation is a plus.

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience.

  • Minimum 5 years of work experience working in data engineering, analytics or related field of practice.

  • May require light travel (10%)
