Job Summary

The Sr. Data Modeler position works with the data management and data architecture teams to define risks and tradeoffs related to different design choices within databases utilized at F&G. The Sr. Data Modeler will have responsiblity to model data for relational and/or dimensional models depending on the context of the project assigned. This role needs to be proficient in data modeling and query analysis tools (e.g., SSMS, Erwin Data Modeler, ER/Studio, etc.) and SQL.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Design and implement data modeling solutions using relational and/or dimensional databases based on need.
  • Work closely with Data Architects to design databases or data warehouses using a mixture of conceptual, logical and physical data models.
  • Assist with the development and maturing of data modeling standards, guidelines, processes, and procedure.
  • Act as a steward of data modeling best pracitces within a community of practice; provide training for data modeling practitioners as needed.
  • Conduct evaluations of existing project data systems, including constructing as-is data models (reverse engineer) and identifying foundational data model. Make recommendations for how data should be modeled based on the results of completed evaluations.
  • Maintain basic understanding of all ACORD standards and responsibe for engineering DDL

Experience and Education Requirements

  • Associate’s/Bachelor's Degree with a preferred emphasis in technology, engineering or math related field or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 4-7 years of experience working in a Database Administration role with a minimum of 3 years of relevant data modeling experience delivering data lake, data warehouse and reporting platforms.
  • Strong proficiency and experience in Data modeling (Conceptual, Logical, Physical, 3nF, Dimensional) at both a project and enterprise level
  • Experience and familiarity with ACORD/DTCC is a plus.
  • Experience with SQL Server, Oracle and/or Snowflake platforms
  • Financial Services or Insurance industry experience preferred
  • Experience working with Data Engineering and Data Analytics teams

 

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Understanding of principles and standard methodologies around Data Architecture
  • Familiarity with ETL tools such as Informatica or Informatica Data Management Cloud
  • Familariity with insurance and financial service industry models and concepts.
  • Experience crafting conformed dimensions that can be used across business untis with dimensional modeling tools such as Powerdesigner, Oracle Designer or Erwin
  • Experience data modeling for columnar based sorage like Snowflake and/or similar platforms.
  • Ability to write SQL to query data (ideally ANSI SQL)
  • Ability to explain Data structures to a non-technical audience
  • Knowledge of metadata management and related tooling (e.g., Informatica Data Management Cloud, Refrerence Data Management)
  • Solid grasp of Database technologies, techniques, and trends
  • Strong interpersonal communication skills, written and verbal
  • Fast, adaptive learner Ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines simultaneously
  • Exhibits flexibility and tolerance for ambiguity with the ability to thrive in a rapidly changing business environment
  • Results-oriented & Dedicated work ethic

  • Perform other functions, duties and projects as assigned
  • Regular and punctual attendance
  • Minimal travel required (less than 10%)
