The External Data Intelligence Team centrally manages R&D, feature exploration and development, vendor engagements, and analytical and product support for a variety of key external data sources used across multiple Card decisioning and analytic use cases. The team aims to drive value generation from new data and new features, and to deliver exceedingly well-managed data products to modeling and business teams.
Role Description:
You will lead the Bureau Data Intelligence function of the External Data Intelligence team, delivering a great customer experience for users of credit bureau data, maintaining subject matter expertise on this centralized data source, and creating high value credit features for use in predictive modeling in underwriting and other customer decisioning. The team keeps abreast of new developments in the industry and engages with multiple vendors, business teams, and modeling teams. Fast-paced and customer-oriented, the team continuously drives new value and sets the standard for centrally managed predictive features in the Capital One Card business.
This role will require a hybrid skill set of strong analytical skills that enables effective insight extraction from complex data, strong interest and curiosity in credit data and the credit data ecosystem, deep familiarity with modeling and credit underwriting, and a product-oriented mindset to build and maintain collaborative relationships with internal partners, and the ability to become a subject matter expert in the credit data industry in order to better support our large internal user base.
In this role, you will:
Partner with a cross-functional team of data scientists, analysts, engineers, and product managers to deliver a product customers love
Leverage a broad stack of technologies — Python, Conda, AWS, H2O, Spark, and more — to reveal the insights hidden within huge volumes of data
Build data engineering solutions through all phases of development, from design through development, evaluation, validation, and implementation
Flex your interpersonal skills to translate the complexity of your work into tangible business goals

Basic Qualifications:
Bachelor’s Degree plus 7 years of experience in data analytics, or Master’s Degree plus 5 years of experience in data analytics, or PhD plus 2 years of experience in data analytics
At least 3 years’ experience in open source programming languages for large scale data analysis
At least 3 years’ experience with machine learning
At least 3 years’ experience with relational databases
Preferred Qualifications:
PhD in “STEM” field (Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics) plus 4 years of experience in data analytics
At least 1 year of experience working with AWS
At least 1 year of experience managing people
At least 5 years’ experience in Python, Scala, or R for large scale data analysis
At least 5 years’ experience with machine learning

The minimum and maximum full-time annual salaries for this role are listed below, by location. Please note that this salary information is solely for candidates hired to perform work within one of these locations, and refers to the amount Capital One is willing to pay at the time of this posting. Salaries for part-time roles will be prorated based upon the agreed upon number of hours to be regularly worked.
Location is New York City- $222,589 and $262,605 for Sr Mgr, Data ScienceLocation is Colorado- $188,636 and $222,548 for Sr Mgr, Data Science
Candidates hired to work in other locations will be subject to the pay range associated with that location, and the actual annualized salary amount offered to any candidate at the time of hire will be reflected solely in the candidate’s offer letter.
