We are hiring a seasoned Data Scientist to join Slack Canvas and Quip product world! This product area focuses on building and enhancing core Canvas features and strategizing for the Quip migration plans and executions. Canvas and Quip product lines are at the core of Slack product strategy and are the most essential components of the Slack user experience! We look forward to welcoming a full stack Data Scientist to join this fast growing team to contribute to our dream of enabling our customers to collaborate more efficiently and effectively in a friction free way.

In this role, you will seek to understand the core Slack features impacting and influencing the nature of collaboration within Slack. You will also help to establish the foundational analytics infrastructure for Slack Canvas/Quip. You will partner closely with Eng, PMs, Researchers, as you work collectively to build/refine Slack’s strategy in this strategic area.

You will inform and influence decisions using data and research by crafting your findings into narratives and partnering with key decision makers within and across product pillars. You will have a unique opportunity to partner with world class researchers with varying backgrounds, including user researchers, market researchers, and survey scientists to uncover user experience gaps and opportunities.

What you will be doing

  • Apply various data science methods to understand different aspects of our product, features, users, and business

  • Evangelize evidence-based decision making by partnering with key decision makers and driving general accessibility of data and insights

  • Partner with data engineering org to design and enhance foundational data models and metrics structure 

  • Organize disparate facts and findings into narratives that inform product strategy formation

  • Define and drive alignment around success metrics for Canvas/Quip areas. Define and build long term product health monitoring and target setting based on evolving product ecosystem

What you should have

  • 5+ years of professional industry Data Science or Analytics experience, ideally with an enterprise software company or consumer facing technology industry

  • An advanced degree (MS, PhD) in a quantitative field (e.g. Computer Science, Economics, Physics) strongly preferred

  • A proven record of using data and data based insights to drive product new features releases

  • Expertise in at least one programming language for data analysis (e.g. Python, R)

  • Experience in designing and deep-diving experiments to guide product launch decisions

  • Experience using statistical and machine learning methods to build descriptive and ML models

  • Experience working with data technologies that allow effective storage and analysis of large amounts of data (e.g. Spark, Presto, Hive, Hadoop, etc)

  • Experience in building advanced data pipelines and designing data model and table infrastructure

  • Ability to drive and own ds scopes in a standalone product area independently. Proactively define and push ds initiatives with timely alignment across key partners.  

  • Influence eng and product decisions with data based insights

  • Able to scale ds work by enabling services and tools for stakeholder self-service. 

  • Able to work in fast pacing tech development environment

For New York-based roles, the base salary hiring range for this position is $172,500 to $258,700.

For Colorado-based roles, the base salary hiring range for this position is $156,800 to $215,600.

For Washington-based roles, the base salary hiring range for this position is $156,800 to $237,200.

For California-based roles, the base salary hiring range for this position is $172,500 to $258,700.

Compensation offered will be determined by factors such as location, level, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Certain roles may be eligible for incentive compensation, equity, benefits.
