We're looking for an AI/ML Lead to help build Co–Star’s Content Systems.

At Co-Star, we create and deliver content in a completely unique way. We’ve built a language generation platform that bridges poetry, NLP/ML, computational linguistics, and astrological algorithms. The tools we’ve built allow our team of creative technologists to take original creative concepts and generate personalized horoscopes for 20M+ users.

As the AI/ML Lead, you’ll work in lockstep with a cross-functional team of product managers, engineers, writers, and taxonomists and will guide the work of data scientists to develop scalable systems for generating, classifying, and interpreting text. This role sits on the Data Science team and reports to the VP of Engineering. You’ll help tens of millions of people connect to each other and themselves – through astrology – in real, meaningful ways. 

WHAT YOU’LL DO

• Build new and innovative tools to scale content generation, while keeping the voice and tone of Co–Star intact
• Evaluate our current data science processes and create a strategy around improvements and scalability
• Iterate on code and infrastructure to optimize the data organization's workflow
• Work closely with Product to develop a roadmap that defines a long-term strategy around content systems, while shipping incrementally with as much measurable user value possible 
• Build, troubleshoot, and integrate data structures across content, backend, and data teams in order to build scalable infrastructure
• Leverage ML papers (Fan, Reiter) & experimental ML tools (e.g. GPT-3) into innovative products and educate others on their capabilities 

WHAT YOU'LL BRING

• 7+ years shipping content generation or analysis products
• Expert-level understanding of core principles and modern tooling in data science, including machine learning (eg SK Learn, PyTorch, TensorFlow), data and text analytics, clustering, pattern recognition and extraction, automated classification and categorization, deep learning, and NLP
• Innovation — you’re a builder and tinkerer. You’ve made robots that do something novel or beautiful 
• Clear communication, both verbally and in writing
• A framework for defining code products that solve linguistic problems and demonstrated success in explaining those problems and solutions to others
• Experience with data pipelines for storage and accessing (AWS Athena, GCP BigQuery) and processing (Athena, EMR, Dataflow, Dataproc)
• A deep love of the scientific method — you live to question, hypothesize, predict, experiment, and analyze
• A love of figuring out “hacky” ways of accomplishing things, but the awareness to know when the cheap way is no longer adequate
• An appreciation for beautiful writing
