Mythic’s AI hardware combines knowledge across many domains, including AI, compilers, and chip design, to create platforms that are 100-1000x more efficient than conventional all-digital systems. This vision comes together on the AI Engineering team, where our expertise is used to develop AI algorithms and models which are optimized for our hardware, as well as to provide guidance to Mythic’s hardware and compiler teams who are building our hardware and compiler platforms. 

The AI Engineering team:

• Develops quantization and robustness AI retraining tools

• Co-designs new features with our compiler team that leverage the adaptability of neural networks to maximize speed & efficiency

• Develops new neural networks that are optimized for our hardware products

• Interfaces with internal and external customers to meet their development needs

The AI Model Development team develops and maintains a portfolio of neural network models for various computer vision applications, including classification, object detection, pose estimation, depth estimation, semantic segmentation, and more. These reference models support a wide variety of customer use cases, from high-throughput and low-latency to super-high accuracy. The goal of this portfolio is to quickly enable customers to meet their unique requirements in as little time and energy as necessary. Some models are also industry benchmarks, like OpenPose and ResNet, while others are optimized directly for Mythic's platform to achieve the best combination of accuracy, speed, power, and size for that application (e.g., Object Detection).

To meet all of these requirements, the AI Model Development team is focused on strong software engineering, flexible design, and a customer-focused mindset. The team also stays current on the state-of-the-art both for new models as well as model parameterization. A mix of research, execution, and customer mindset is required to perform well on this team.

Here's what you will do:

• Manage Mythic's portfolio of reference computer vision models
• Improve Mythic's SDK to make development faster and more productive for Mythic's customers
• Engage with the Product & Business Development organization to prioritize the development of new models and features
• Nurture high-quality software engineering practices in the team
• Grow multiple technical leads on the team to keep many concurrent projects in flight
• Communicate a clear view of schedules, risks, and opportunities to company leadership
• Provide feedback to the rest of engineering on supporting technology directions (these models represent the end goal for all of engineering)
• Stay up-to-date with literature for neural network architectures

Here is the background we hope you have:

• 2+ years of experience in software engineering management, especially on a machine learning engineering team
• 2+ years experience with developing customer-facing software, including supporting applications teams or directly interfacing to customers, as a manager
• 5+ years of experience in the industry working on computer vision, data science, or ML engineering teams
• Strong technical abilities in order to mentor team members, help drive the vision of the reference models, and contribute to the code base when needed
• Experience leading a team in an agile environment that follows CI/CD and other software engineering practices
• Experience managing multiple concurrent, high-priority projects
• Experience communicating at a high level to company leadership

The following would be nice to have, but not required:

• Experience working at startups
• Ph.D. or previously published peer-reviewed research
• Experience training neural networks with reduced precision or other hardware-based limitations. Such as quantization-aware training, pruning, distillation, and transfer learning
• Comfortable writing optimized+clean Python and PyTorch code
• Experience with other Neural Network frameworks (Tensorflow, Caffe, ONNX)
• Experience with edge deployment pipelines: e.g. GStreamer or OpenCV
• Knowledge of the state-of-the-art in neural network architecture and training
