What is the purpose of the Business Operations department?

  • To collaborate with Bench Operational Leaders, understand how their team’s work, and to create analytical insights that allows them to remove obstacles and improve workflows 

What’s in store for my role as the Analyst, Operations?

Strategic Thinking 

  • Supporting in the development of a strong Operations function through deep collaboration, support, and critical thinking
  • Highlighting opportunities to accelerate our Operations performance and strategy
  • Having a strong understanding of our business metrics and how they relate to our Revenue teams, vocalizing when there's an opportunity to better refine how the team interacts with these metrics

Subject Matter Expertise

  • Critically assessing the definitions of metrics to ensure consistent reporting for service delivery KPIs, quality measurement, and efficiency
  • Building and maintaining sources of truth that support “self-serve” analytics by our Operations business unit owners
  • Acting as a steward for revenue and Operations data across the organization
  • Participating in the creation of business cases and roadmaps in partnership with stakeholders and project managers that improve the state of the Operations data ecosystem

Analytics

  • Building and maintaining Bench's view of performance by product and delivery team and its connections to other reporting
  • Delivering ad-hoc analysis, recommendations and insights that stakeholders can action
  • Identifying, tackling and reconciling reporting issues in a timely manner
  • Transforming data through SQL queries to blend meaningful insights from Salesforce, the Bench App, and other tooling data stored in a Redshift data warehouse
  • Working in partnership with the Data team to transform and aggregate raw data into well structured data sets that can be easily consumed by wider analytics audiences
  • Supporting the Finance team in forecasting efforts by providing analyses on Operations data and querying actualization data for productivity and utilization metrics

Systems Support 

  • Helping to support system improvements by providing Operations analytics context and navigate the downstream impacts of system changes

To be successful in this role, you'll need to have:

  • Strong to medium proficiency in SQL (we use PostgreSQL, but we’re open to any type of SQL): 
    • Performing SQL queries and joins
    • Experience writing optimized queries and views preferred
    • You should be able to analyze a situation and apply SQL skills to a particular business problem
  • Excellent Excel or Google Sheets skills.
  • Exceptional analytical skills and intuition
  • Comfort working with quantitative and qualitative data
  • Experience translating complex business problems into clear drivers and structured models
  • Experience running discovery workshops with internal stakeholders with the sole purpose of helping them understand what obstacles, impediments, or friction they have in their roles
  • Experience using data to drive recommendations to senior leadership and stakeholders

This role could be an even better fit if you happen to have:

  • Experience using the following data visualization tools, Data Warehouses, and technologies to present insights to senior stakeholders: 
    • Tableau
    • PowerBI
    • Python
    • AWS Redshift / GCP Big Query / Azure Synapse Analytics or any other Data Warehouses 
    • DBT (Data Build Tool)
  • Experience conducting analysis or building data models to analyze churn, retention, turnover, or resource management
  • 1 - 3  years of experience in accounting, finance, bookkeeping, consulting, data analysis, business intelligence or a related field
