Quartz Media, a global News organization, is seeking a Data Analytics Engineer to join our Analytics Product team. This newly created position will play a vital part of our new data and insights strategy. Primarily this role will be responsible for maintaining our data warehouse and business intelligence environment. You will help optimize and improve data ingestion and transformations in our ELT processes using the latest tech stack. As our data environment expands and becomes more complex, you will take ownership of making sure new sources, KPI’s and definitions are clearly documented and built in a scalable way. Internally you will help consult with software engineers, data analysts, business users to ensure we have the right data flowing from the right places in order to conduct analyses and experimentation. Sometimes you will need to source new data directly by ingesting from APIs or setting up Webhooks.

What You’ll Do:

  • Maintain data quality, security, and availability across our data environment 
  • Develop new data transformation layers and manage KPI definitions in database and our BI layer
  • Help lead the Data Governance function to support growing data adoption across the organization
  • Take ownership of all data tracking and ingestion pipelines across the organization
  • Manage data models in Looker (LookML) to enable self-service data access and data definitions
  • Work with analysts, product managers, and business stakeholders to create new data transformations from existing raw data
  • Set up and maintain API connections to various sources
  • Maintain pre-built data pipelines (Fivetran, Stitch, and Segment) data flows for the entire organization

  • Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to build for long-term success
  • Excellent communication skills with a strong ability to create a compelling narrative from data-driven insights.
  • Able to analyze complex situations from a strategic level and execute technical analysis with precision and accuracy.
  • A strong desire constantly be improving whether it is systems, processes, or even yourself

Technical Skills:

  • Highly proficient in SQL (Snowflake) and liquid SQL syntax (Looker / DBT); Python a big plus
  • Highly proficient in AWS or GCP cloud-services environments
  • Experience managing cloud databases (BigQuery, Redshift, and Snowflake)
  • Experience with DBT and Airflow
  • High attention to detail and ability to manage complex projects and updates
  • Clear technical writing skills for documentation and maintenance of data dictionaries
  • Experience with creating complex DAGs and maintaining data pipelines with Airflow or DBT
