The team:

The Cloud Cost Optimization team works directly with the CTO and CFO, and is responsible for identifying and executing on cost-saving opportunities, providing engineering teams meaningful visibility into spend, and empowering finance to understand and incorporate the complexities of cloud costs.

 

The opportunity:

As a CloudOps Financial Analyst, you will dig deep into cloud costs to help provide deeper meaning to Datadog's cloud spend. You'll be partnering with Engineering VPs to help correlate usage and spend and you'll work closely with Finance to build detailed cost modeling forecasts. You’ll work to track product margins, project spend for new cloud datacenters and initiatives, and deeply understand the financial growth of our cloud infrastructure. The Cloud Cost Optimization team is a relatively new group at Datadog, and you will help shape and grow the team to be effective as the company (and spend) grows.

 

You will:

  • Dive deep into detailed billing reporting to build cost models and discover meaningful insights about computing usage
  • Model that information against engineering roadmaps to help forecast spend and model growth
  • Work with Finance team to ensure cross-department alignment
  • Work with individual engineering teams to understand the context behind the data
  • Report on results against our cloud projections to leadership across the company

 

Requirements:

  • Your analytical skills are evidenced by the elegance and correctness of the quantitative financial reports and models you produce. 
  • You have wrangled wayward data sets by relying on the likes of vlookups, index match, sumifs, pivot tables, and named ranges.
  • You have experience building cost models and deriving insights from raw data
  • You have been tasked with providing a digestible financial view of a complex problem space before; and it’s the kind of problem you’re excited to tackle



Bonus points:

  • Experience with SQL, BI visualization tools like Looker, Mode, Metabase
  • You have been analyzing and forecasting public cloud spend at a large scale
  • You’ve worked directly with cloud providers’ detailed billing reporting
  • You understand the major cloud providers' product offerings and can relate to how they power the Datadog platform
