The Impact of Nana

Nana is a vertically integrated student-to-operator trade skills school, today focused on Appliance Repair. We work with some of the 35 million people who will lose their jobs by 2030 to tech automation, teaching them trade skills, building their experience through our mentorship program, and connecting them to good jobs on our marketplace. By perfecting this pipeline and teaching life skills to a new generation of tradespeople, we are accelerating the retooling of America’s workforce and creating millions of economic opportunities. We value transparency, hustle, clarity, truth, and humility.

About The Role

As a Data Analyst at Nana, you'll join a team of skilled data scientists and engineers in helping to define and implement our data pipeline and science strategy. You will use existing and new tools to help answer questions about the state of the business, the impact of our engineering efforts, and the direction we're headed in. You'll work with Operations, Growth, and Product, to figure out what questions we should be asking - and then help answer them! You'll uncover important insights into the efficient operation of a marketplace and the levers that impact user behavior, and ultimately help propel Nana's growth across orders of magnitude.

A Day In The Life

On any given day, a Data Analyst at Nana might:

  • Code - Working alone or with a PM, and other data scientists and engineers, a data analyst may spec out a new table to enable analysis of our data and implement it in DBT and / or in Databricks. They’ll figure out a solution, and code the implementation.
  • Deploy - We deploy often, and engineers will shepherd their own work to production via our CI/CD pipeline when they are ready.
  • Code Review - Review each other’s code, helping to keep the team aligned on best practices and keeping easily spotted mistakes from making it out to production.
  • Improve Data Collection - A data analyst at Nana works closely with other engineers to make sure we’re collecting the right data to enable downstream analysis.
  • Contribute - We are a team of engineers and for engineers, and so members of the team look forward to contributing their particular knowledge where it’s needed; we do this on our Wiki, in hybrid meetings and in Slack.  And sometimes at lunch.
  • Participate in team planning activities - Participate in regular team processes to keep abreast of priorities, communicate progress and blockers, and get to know their fellow hybrid team members.

About You

  • You are inquisitive.  You dive deep into problems, leaving no stone unturned, working hard to find the right approach before you write a line of code.
  • You are strong in SQL (and optionally DBT).  You are a defensive data analyst, who looks for, finds, surfaces, and accounts for caveats in data that may be hidden to the untrained eye.
  • You have experience in operational analytics such as finance data, but you are also comfortable working with product analytics data and evaluation experiments.
  • You have a basic understanding of statistical concepts and methods
  • You are inquisitive. You dive deep into data, leaving no NULL unaccounted for, working hard to find the right approach that uses the right data.
  • You are an excellent communicator who is able to explain technical concepts clearly to technical and non-technical audiences.
  • You are motivated to take on new challenges and self-direct. You enjoy figuring out where you can have an impact and taking on increasing ownership.
  • You are a team player, even if you tend to work quietly and alone. You don’t mind contributing to code review, you’ll pitch in if you see a need and you’ll take the opportunity to teach a peer if you know something they don’t.
  • You know when something needs to be perfect, and when something needs to be done quickly, and change your approach accordingly.
  • [Nice to have]: You have some familiarity with JavaScript, TypeScript and/or MongoDB.
  • Your own unique talents! If you don’t meet 100% of the qualifications outlined above, tell us why you’d be a great fit for this role in your cover letter
