What You’ll Do 

As a Data Analytics Engineer, you are eager to use data to solve business problems and guide data-driven decision making across an entire organization. You enjoy the end to end process of data analytics including building the data environment, building the ETL pipelines, analysis, visualization, and machine learning in order to advance business outcomes. You are a maker at heart who enjoys being in the code while also uncovering new product and business opportunities through whatever methods and tools are right for the task. You enjoy collaborating with a team, but you also have the ability to work independently when needed to get things done. Above all, you are broadly curious, driven to learn and a motivated problem solver who wants to help tackle the new and interesting challenges that we encounter as a fast-growing startup.

Over the last few years we have been building out a best-in-class data environment that we’ve used to transform When I Work into a data-driven company. You will be a key contributor extracting value from this environment as well as develop and sustain data projects and analyses that will have significant impact to our company and our users.

Who You Are

You are a data enthusiast with a knack for translating numeric data into a form that can be understood by everyone in an organization, and communicate effectively with technical and non-technical colleagues. You are someone who enjoys working on a variety of projects that include building analytical models, coding, data visualizations. You must be self-directed and comfortable supporting the data needs of multiple teams, systems and products. You are eager to learn and develop new technologies and apply them. You thrive in an environment that is highly collaborative, innovative, & passionate work culture.

Experience and Skills Needed

  • You have good programming fundamentals
  • You are comfortable with agile, collaborative coding processes 
  • You have the ability to distinguish signal from noise in complex data sets
  • You have experience with Python or another, similar programming language
  • You have solid, hygienic SQL skills
  • You have experience modeling data to support both consistent and generic usage patterns
  • You have solid understanding of both structured and unstructured data
  • Experience modeling data within OLAP relational data stores
  • You have familiarity with cloud computing environments and infrastructure
  • You practice empathy and kindness, and you look to help others

What Would Be Awesome To Have

  • Advanced Python and data package (Numpy, Pandas, etc.) skills
  • You are a proponent of DataOps
  • Experience with S3 based data lake and parquet file format
