The Data Science and Engineering team at When I Work is a group of inquisitive and driven individuals who love solving problems using data. We focus on projects that will have a big impact to the company and work to enable anyone to be a savvy data user.

What You’ll Do 

Over the last few years we have been building out a best-in-class data environment that we’ve used to transform When I Work into a data-driven company. You will be a key contributor in continuing to grow and mature this environment as well as develop and sustain data projects that will have significant impact to our company and our users.

  • Create and maintain various ML models that inform our business operations
  • Perform deep dive analysis to identify important signals in our data
  • Proactively identify trends and key findings to help guide our business decisions
  • Create ETLs and update/improve our architecture and tooling where necessary
  • Drive evaluation and implementation of new tools and processes
  • Build trust with business stakeholders in delivering data products and solutions
  • Help team members to level up in their data science and engineering abilities

You are eager to use data to solve business problems and guide data-driven decision making across an entire organization. You enjoy the end to end process of data science including building the data environment, building the ETL processes, analysis, visualization, AI, and machine learning in order to advance business outcomes. You are a maker at heart who enjoys being in the code while also uncovering new product and business opportunities through whatever methods and tools are right for the task. You enjoy collaborating with a team, but you also have the ability to work independently when needed to get things done. Above all, you are broadly curious, driven to learn, and a motivated problem solver who wants to help tackle the new and interesting challenges that we encounter as a fast-growing startup.

Experience and Skills Needed

  • You have advanced programming fundamentals
  • You have advanced understanding of core statistical concepts and methodologies 
  • You are comfortable with a collaborative coding process and peer reviews 
  • You have experience with Python and relevant packages (numpy, pandas, etc.)
  • You have experience with multiple ML models (Linear Regression, Logistic Regression, Random Forest, XGBoost, etc.)
  • You have advanced SQL skills
  • You have solid understanding of both structured and unstructured data
  • You have significant experience with cloud computing environments and infrastructure
  • You are open to learning new things, both within and outside the scope of Data Science
  • You practice empathy and kindness, and you look to help others
