About the Role
Summer interns at Citrine are paired with a senior research engineer to design and implement new, customer-facing platform functionality. This is a great opportunity to see an AI product get designed, built, and tested alongside domain experts in the field. Our internships are at least 12 weeks long, typically aligning with the academic calendar but flexible on exact dates.

What You'll Do (Example Projects)
- Improve the interpretability of machine learning models and develop tools to communicate that information to users
- Develop ways to efficiently explore the complex parameter spaces that characterize real-world materials synthesis problems
- Build tools that allow users to express their scientific knowledge through custom graphical models
- Develop new methods to quantify uncertainty in machine learning predictions

Skills and Qualifications
- Enrolled in MS, PhD, or equivalent experience in the sciences, mathematics, statistics, or computer science
- Experience solving scientific problems with computational techniques (we mostly use Python and Scala/Java)
- Enthusiasm to learn
Preferred Skills and Qualifications
- Familiarity with Linux
- Ability to communicate complex technical concepts and design choices
