About the Data Engineering Team

The Data Engineering team’s mission is to ensure that the right data and modelling is available to the right people, so that we can leverage data to best serve our clients, customers and grow to be a truly data driven organisation. This means that we collaborate with other teams to capture their data requirements and find the best way to make that data available, on a secure, stable, single-source of truth that is GDPR compliant. The goal is to enable other teams to leverage the data through reporting, analytics, ad-hoc queries, and machine learning.

Our Data Engineering team will contribute to the mission by building scalable and resilient systems that automate data flows and pipelines that support the productionising of models and machine learning models for batch and live inference.

What you’ll be doing

  • Work as part of a multi-disciplinary team to scale our data platform that enables fellow teams to leverage our data and technology via reports, insights, and algorithms to make the returns experience effortless and more sustainable
  • Work across ELT (extract, load, transform), with ownership of our key data modelling pipelines (transforms)
  • Work collaboratively with Data Scientists, Analysts and our Visualisation Team to understand their requirements, providing them with clean transformed data because of your work
  • Be responsible for the governance of data access, ensuring the right people have the right access at the right time
  • Collaborate with our data insights team to support on growing out BI and insights capabilities
  • Take ownership in the trust of Zigzag’s data. Understanding that the integrity, presence and quality of this data creates confidence in the platform and all of the insights generated from it
  • Work with our data science team (coming soon) to refine and maintain a machine learning platform, with a large focus on machine learning operations tooling

What you’ll need to be successful

  • An excellent understanding of SQL and data modelling is second nature to you, where you are comfortable across data warehousing concepts
  • Have experience leveraging the power of cloud based big data systems such as Databricks or Snowflake.
  • Be able to contribute to our team’s technical direction and strategy, ensuring we are always building the right thing in the right way with data governance and data management principles in mind
  • You take ownership of code, the infrastructure it sits on, the CI/CD pipelines that test and deploy it, and the production systems that monitor it. Note - we will also have a QA
  • You will collaborative effectively, enjoy sharing knowledge and can work with stakeholders across the organization, including our Head of Data and Insights, Tech, Finance, BI and Product teams
  • Have some exposure to Python or similar languages
  • Have some experience working with front end technologies (Tableau, PowerBI)
  • Have some familiarity with ML operations and tooling.
  • Excellent spoken and written English.
  • We work using agile practices - Scrum, Kanban, Azure DevOps, iterative development, etc.
  • We look to use the most up to date technologies, with our current stack using Fivetran, dbt and Databricks
