The Data team designs and builds the data assets, pipelines and applications that will enable Xero to bring smart, data-driven, personalised services to millions of customers around the world. We believe in Analytical Data platforms that enable us to simplify analytical data usage, pipelines and ML development. 

As a member of our dynamic team you will be someone who thrives on owning your solutions from beginning to end and is always looking forward to learning new tools and technologies. You will leverage all of your engineering skills, Platform, Data and Software to build solutions in a secure, usable, reliable, and scalable manner to enable users to access relevant, vast, and quality data in an effective manner.

What you'll do:

    • Build Data Platforms, associated tooling, frameworks and integrations to enable teams to work with data 
    • Improve the existing solutions and services (Data Platforms)
    • Input into design and implementation of effective monitoring solutions and infrastructure to support scalable batch and real-time systems 
    • Be a team player and actively participate during Platform design and delivery rituals
    • Actively provide platform services support and management along with our wider geographically distributed team
    • Work with Engineering, Product and Technology teams to understand the types of data across Xero to enable integration with our analytics platforms
    • You will actively contribute to documenting the features, services and additional information required and collaborate with wider team members at all stages of the engineering workflow
    • Remain up to date with relevant technology changes and trends and continually grow knowledge of how they may benefit Xero

About you:

    • You’re an engineer first and foremost. You know your git from your GET, your ansible from your aniseed and your terraform from your pterosaur.
    • You’re passionate about technology and have firm opinions which technology should be used for what purposes, knowing that one size does not always fit all.
    • You are keen to work with data and data systems, helping realise the value and opportunities in the data space.

What you'll bring with you:

    • Experience in the automation, maintenance, and management of cloud-based services with either AWS, GCP, Azure or equivalent
    • Ability to measure and design for non-functionals, such as reliability, availability, security and performance
    • Strong engineering skills with the ability to articulate and advocate the technical vision and direction for your capability
    • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to contribute meaningful and accurate advice
    • Experience with implementing and integrating with monitoring and alerting tools
    • Knowledge of BI and Reporting Platforms or similar, and understanding of platform requirements for ML / AI use cases
    • Experience in creating and managing virtualisation and container orchestration environments
    • Prior Data Platform(s) experience
