Zipline is looking for a skilled Data Scientist to leverage data-driven insights and advanced analytics to drive strategic decision-making and deliver actionable solutions for our retail SaaS platform. As a key member of our Data team, You'll collaborate with a diverse team of innovators to transform raw data into strategic gold mines, uncovering hidden gems and unlocking untapped potential for our retail partners.
Responsibilities:
- Utilize machine learning techniques and statistical analysis to develop predictive models and algorithms that optimize various aspects of the retail experience, including demand forecasting, task management, and inventory control.
- Analyze large, complex datasets to extract actionable insights and identify trends, patterns, and opportunities for optimization.
- Leverage datasets to uncover patterns, trends, and opportunities that others might miss.
- Work closely with Product Managers and Engineering teams to integrate data science solutions into our retail SaaS platform, ensuring seamless implementation and scalability, and delighting our customers.
- Collaborate with stakeholders across the organization to understand business requirements, define success metrics, and communicate findings and recommendations effectively.
- Stay abreast of the latest advancements in data science, machine learning, and retail technology to drive innovation and maintain our competitive edge in the market.
Must Haves:
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics, or related field; Master's degree or Ph.D. preferred.
- Proven experience as a Data Scientist or similar role, with a focus on the retail domain.
- Strong proficiency in programming languages such as Python or R, along with experience using libraries and frameworks for data manipulation, analysis, and machine learning (e.g., pandas, scikit-learn, TensorFlow).
- Solid understanding of statistical methods, experimental design, and hypothesis testing.
- Experience working with large-scale datasets and proficiency in SQL and data querying languages.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to translate complex data into actionable insights and recommendations.
- A passion for innovation, continuous learning, and leveraging data science to drive business impact in the retail industry.

A note on our Flexible Time Off Policy - We don’t have a set number of “Days Off” at Zipline, and instead Zipliners request time off when and as they need it, under a Flexible Time Off Policy. Each request is then reviewed by your manager and a decision is made with all of the appropriate business considerations accounted for. Typically, we see Zipliners using 15-25 days per year, and it’s important to note that time off is not unlimited.

How do we work? Remotely. We have been 100% remote since the company was founded. We come together as a company every week for our Wednesdays Socials, where the topic can be a classic “Standup” format, a micro learning around burnout and mental health, followed by discussion, or a silly trivia…and anything in between! Some Fridays, we come together to learn from each other. One week it might be about opossum rescue. Another week it might be an update on our product roadmap or the results of our customer satisfaction survey.
