Clio is more than just a tech company–we are a global leader that is transforming the legal experience for all by bettering the lives of legal professionals while increasing access to justice.

We are currently seeking a Data Scientist, App Ecosystem to join our Business Operations department in Burnaby, Calgary, or Toronto. This role is also available to remote candidates across Canada, excluding Quebec.

What your team does:

The App Ecosystem team is a cross-functional team, made up of folks in software development, product design, product marketing, app partnership management and dev relations - and we are so excited to welcome a data scientist to our group! The App Ecosystem team’s goal is to create a thriving and profitable ecosystem for 3rd-party developers to deliver legal technology to our customers. We already have 200+ integrations but we're only just getting started.

Who you are:

We are currently seeking a Data Scientist to be embedded on our App Ecosystem team, collaborating to guide rapid iterations of hypothesis, prioritization, experimentation, analysis and roll-out (supported by our Director of Data Insights and team of data scientists). You will help build a scientific culture in our Product team, help our business grow, and help our customers succeed. You’ll contribute to the success and growth of Clio’s App Ecosystem - both the success of our third-party app partners as well as value for customers using third-party apps. You’ll also help lay the foundation for this work by assisting us with the development of a tracking plan to ensure we have the data needed.

We aren’t looking for just any traditional Data Scientist to join this team. We’re looking for someone who takes data seriously, thrives in a rapid-growth, high-velocity environment, and someone who lives and breathes their values. We’re looking for an innovator and a thought leader! We’re looking for someone who is:

  • Passionate about driving growth empirically;
  • Always looking to innovate with data and explore open-ended questions;
  • Strategically minded and never shies away from a challenge;
  • Self-motivated and able to work autonomously and collaboratively;
  • Agile and responsive, and comfortable with constant change.

What you’ll work on:

  • Collaborate with the App Ecosystem team to identify opportunities, develop hypotheses, and run experiments that drive growth;
  • Ensure that the data needed for our hypotheses and experiments is available and usable (event tracking, data modelling);
  • Identify new questions about our business, product, and customers that lead to impactful insights for the success of our third-party app partners and our customers, related to the App Directory;
  • Build predictive models to forecast the impact of specific App Ecosystem initiatives;
  • Establish requirements and best practices for event tracking, testing frameworks, and other data collection to enable new insights in a scalable and predictable way;
  • Innovate new techniques in statistical analysis, machine learning, and data mining to unlock opportunities in the App Ecosystem using both small and large datasets;
  • Build a scientific culture in the Product team by enabling discussions with data, disseminating best practices, and leading by example.

What you may have:

  • An undergraduate or graduate degree in a relevant quantitative discipline (computing science, statistics, mathematics, etc.)
  • 3-5 years applied experience in data science;
  • Experience in product analytics working with product and user behaviour data;
  • Experience working with smaller datasets (e.g. Bayesian approaches) and making effective inferences using the volume of data available;
  • Proficiency in database modelling, SQL, and data warehousing principles;
  • Proficiency in developing analysis in Python, R, or a similar language;
  • Strong team player mindset, but able to work under own initiative and manage time effectively;
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Serious bonus points if you have:

  • A deep understanding of SaaS business metrics and growth drivers;
  • Experience with App Marketplaces or App Directories.
