Position Description

This position supports the key initiatives of DICP and is critical in designing, collaborating and implementing school-wide and DEI projects such as Harvard Medical School Diversity and Better Together dashboards, Harvard Medical School Pulse surveys, DICP dashboards and DEI databases.


Job Responsibilities:

  1. Collaborate with HMS and Harvard University data working groups on HMS Pulse surveys that guide inclusion and belonging priorities related to policies, practices, and programs; as well as, measure overall progress in these areas. This will involve designing data pipelines to facilitate DICP metrics and partnering with other HMS offices, and data stakeholders, to collect, analyze, report, and understand DEI data.
  2.  Collaborate with data working groups to resolve issues related to DEI databases. Translate data problems into well-defined technical specifications. Design and build user-friendly database solutions and instrumentation.
  3. Lead and manage the building of DEI databases and dashboards. Develop & debug scripts, create procedures to process data from different clinical and computational sources. Expand the existing schema design to handle new data formats. Work with stakeholders to test data accuracy and quality. Work independently and self-manage different aspects of database and dashboard project lifecycle.
  4. Document software written to inform end users of its functionality and usability. Work closely with stakeholders to understand data derived from both healthcare providers and computational methods. Assists in developing an anthology of medical terminology to represent the data within our application and database.
  5. Deliver data analysis for ad hoc reporting requests from Dean of DICP, HMS Dean’s Office, constituents, stakeholders, and other source.

Basic Qualifications

  • Minimum of two years’ post-secondary education or relevant work experience

Additional Qualifications and Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree in data science, data analytics, or a related field preferred; relevant experience may substitute for degree.
  • Five or more years of experience in data science or a related field preferred.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to write clearly for a broad audience and explain technical analysis to a non-technical audience.
  • Ability to visualize data and communicate complex data in the most effective way.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Enthusiasm for collaborating closely with others.
  • Experience working with DEI data and metrics.

Certificates and Licenses

  • Completion of Harvard IT Academy specified foundational courses (or external equivalent) preferred

Additional Information

This position is based in Boston and some in-person on-campus work will be required, and flexible/remote work is an option. Any remote work must be performed in a state in which Harvard is registered to do business (CA*, CT, GA, IL, MA, MD, ME, NH, NJ, NY, RI, VA, VT, and WA). Individual flexible and remote work options for this role will be discussed during the interview process. *Note: Harvard employees working in California must be exempt.

This is a 12-month term appointment with the possibility of renewal contingent on funding.
