Qualifications

BASIC EDUCATION REQUIREMENT: Must possess a bachelor's degree in mathematics, statistics, computer science, data science or a field of study directly related to the position. The degree must be in a major field of study (at least at the baccalaureate level) that is appropriate for the position. OR
Combination of education and experience: Must possess a combination of education and experience of: Courses equivalent to a major field of study (30 semester hours) as shown in paragraph A above, plus additional education or appropriate experience. AND
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT: In addition to meeting the Basic Education Requirement, you must also possess specialized experience as indicated below in order to qualify for this position.
Specialized Experience: Must possess one (1) year of specialized experience equipped with the knowledge, skills and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the Data Scientist position. This experience must have been equivalent to at least the GS-13 grade level in the Federal service. Specialized experience includes: working experience with the responsibility for the overall development, management, control, coordination, storage, retrieval and execution of data acquisition requirements and the efforts of other agency professionals and contractors in solving complex and far-reaching data management issues and problems for a wide range of systems, applications, and customers with issues that include data interface and storage, and require application of data management principles, procedures, and tools such as modeling techniques, data backup, data recovery, data dictionaries, data warehousing, data mining, data disposal, and data standardization processes; possessing expertise in and management of end-to-end data processes in the data life cycle including experience with the use of data elements; storage of data elements (data model) and data quality methods, programming, statistics, machine learning, and data visualization; conducting observational analysis using software and/or programming languages such as R, Python, or SAS to explore/group data, test hypotheses, predict outcomes, and inform decisions. IMPORTANT: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. All experience listed on your resume must include the month and year start/end dates.
