Cars Commerce (Cars.com and more) is transforming into a holistic provider of technology solutions for the auto industry. Our online platform of products makes it easier for consumers to buy and sell cars, while enabling auto dealers and manufacturers to better connect with consumers across a wide range of needs. We make buying and selling cars easier for everyone.
Data is the fuel driving us forward at Cars, and we need a Data Scientist II to join our data science team. The DS team is responsible for improving numerous aspects of our shopping experiences and dealership capabilities, plus contributing advanced capabilities to our internal analytics. This is the team behind machine learning and AI at Cars.
About the team and our work:
DS at Cars is a group of smart and collaborative individuals from diverse backgrounds. We learn from each other through regular technical review sessions and stay connected through coffee chats across our remote-first company and team. We are also involved in the open source community and regularly participate in DS events.
We find new opportunities to leverage data with ML/AI, and produce high-scale and impactful solutions in collaboration with nearly every function in the company. Our solutions serve millions of users and customers through our websites, apps and other tools. Solutions include search, recommendation systems, pricing models, churn predictors and much more. Each team member holistically owns projects. Over time, we ensure every DS gains exposure to working on diverse areas of ML across different parts of the business. The team maintains a healthy balance between immediate deliverables and longer term research projects.

In a typical week you will:

  • Collaborate with product and engineering teams to define, design, build, evaluate, A/B test, deploy, monitor, and maintain ML models.

  • Work with business partners to identify business opportunities and understand the business impact of models.

  • Apply robust and maintainable production feature coding practices to ensure model outputs are provided reliably and efficiently at all times

  • Communicate modeling methodologies and analytical findings to business stakeholders 

  • Stay up-to-date with latest technology trends and publish research articles on science and innovations

Requirements:

  • 2+ years professional experience developing machine learning models

  • At least a bachelor’s degree in ML, data science, or related STEM fields

  • Understanding of supervised & unsupervised ML, deep learning, and other MLI techniques and processes

  • Understanding of GenAI concepts, models and tools

  • Experience with full ML lifecycle including development, validation, implementation and release

    • Strong coding skills in Python/PySpark and SQL

    • Understanding of coding best practices and familiar with version control tools 

    • Experience using AWS ecosystem or equivalent

    • Experience with Docker, Jenkins or similar CI/CD tools, Git, dashboarding tools

  • Ability to be flexible working on diverse problems by learning and applying the best techniques, instead of focusing on a narrow ML area previously learned

  • Strong soft skills including collaboration with diverse technical and non-technical stakeholders, clear verbal and written communication, ability to see different points of view, and business aptitude to craft technical solutions for maximum impact

Preferred:

  • Experience working on search, recommendation, and/or personalization systems

Salary Range

$115,300.00-144,150.00
