Job Description

This role is part of Cash App's ML team and will be deeply embedded within our Customer Support Workstream. This team’s mission is to create better-than-human Customer Support Experiences. Cash App holds people’s money, and building customers’ trust is absolutely essential to our brand. Cash App’s mission is to serve the unbanked as well as disrupt traditional financial institutions. Providing fast and reliable help whenever the customer needs it is a major component of building trust and pursuing this mission. Our massive scale and deep trove of Support transcript data create an endless number of opportunities to leverage statistical models and machine learning in the analysis to better understand our customers and offer better experiences. We are a highly creative group that prefers to solve problems from first principles; we move quickly, make incremental changes, and deploy to production every day.

As a Decision Scientist, you will apply data-driven techniques to identify new opportunities, participate in project definition and prioritization and directly impact business strategy setting outcomes. There is a high expectation of proactively identifying, investigating, and resolving problems; designing and establishing key metrics; and the effective usage of various techniques such as statistical modeling, A/B experimentation and machine learning to drive the best decisions.

Qualifications

Technologies we use (and teach):

  • Python (NumPy, Pandas, sklearn, xgboost, etc.)
  • MySQL, Snowflake, GCP/AWS, Tableau, Looker

You have:

  • Advanced degree in Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Science, Economics or other quantitative field
  • 3+ years of experience in a data-driven decision making role in a domain that leverages applied ML regularly such as recommendation, ads and NLP
  • Solid experience with data analysis and scripting in Python and proficient in SQL
  • Familiarity with ML techniques, applications and best practices in solving real world problems
  • Proficient at defining, utilizing and communicating performance metrics with Product, Design and Engineering, etc.
  • Proven track record of tackling ambiguous business challenges with minimal guidance and applying analytical/statistical methods to tackle real-world problems using big data

Additional Information

Block takes a market-based approach to pay, and pay may vary depending on your location. U.S. locations are categorized into one of four zones based on a cost of labor index for that geographic area. The successful candidate’s starting pay will be determined based on job-related skills, experience, qualifications, work location, and market conditions. These ranges may be modified in the future.

Zone A: USD $167,300 - USD $204,500
Zone B: USD $158,900 - USD $194,300
Zone C: USD $150,600 - USD $184,000
Zone D: USD $142,200 - USD $173,800
