About The Role
As Food52 continues to accelerate our growth, we are looking for a leader to spearhead the evolution of our data function. Reporting to the Chief Product and Technology Officer, the Director of Data Science and Analytics will be the most senior data leader at the company, partnering with every leader to design, evangelize, and execute on the platforms and tooling that drive how we build data powered products and transparent, actionable insights.  This role will have a huge impact on the future of Food52 by further developing the strategy for the future of data in our core business.

Who You Are
In this role, you’ll drive a complete data & visualization system, work hand-in-hand with top leadership to drive the strategic planning processes, support teams with valuable data-driven insights & recommendations, and lead a high-performing team of data & strategy analysts. We’re looking for someone who will evangelize the use of data and analytics in everything we do and work with a wide variety of cross-functional leaders to integrate analytical learnings and intelligence into the product and business decisions that propel Food52 forward and create a data-based decision-making culture.

Responsibilities

    • Lead and manage data team
    • Attract, recruit, train, coach and retain top talent
    • Design, develop and continuously improve data collection and visualization solutions
    • Define and socialize metrics, dashboards, reports and custom analyses to track performance and success of initiatives and business outcomes across the business
    • Ensure that all stakeholders have access to reliable and accurate dashboards and reporting as required to operate their areas of business
    • Lead our data science and machine learning efforts
    • Own all DBT, Looker and Google Analytics functions, including working with multiple teams across the business to troubleshoot operational or data issues in the data pipelines
    • Lead the team to deeply understand our customers, and their actions, our product offering and experience, what works or what does not, and develop future strategies based on that understanding
    • Turn complex data-driven insights into compelling stories that are anchored in improving and optimizing customer experience and engagement across all touch points
    • Develop a partnership with business stakeholders to ensure we are meeting existing analytic needs by asking the right questions in order to deliver an actionable solution
    • Empower partners in Product, Design, and Engineering with the tools and skills needed to view and analyze data
    • Participate in business strategy discussions, determine how KPIs impact operational and financial performance of the business, work with business unit leaders to strategize & forecast accordingly
    • Drive the development of key strategy documents, with ownership for elements of the operating plan such as key initiatives, KPIs and team goals

Requirements

    • 8+ years of experience in business intelligence, analytics, data visualization, data science, and data management. Experience with consumer-facing media or commerce products a plus
    • Demonstrated analytical skills with the ability to generate business cases and insights from diverse data sources
    • Meticulous attention to detail and project management capabilities
    • Experience with business intelligence platform tooling; experience with Looker a plus
    • Experience creating impact through various approaches to analysis and implementation of tools, including but not limited to: Modeling media mix & developing multi-channel attribution model / Creating customer lifetime value, propensity-to-buy, and propensity-to-churn models / Designing & analyzing product experiments, including A/B, multivariate, and multi-armed bandit experiments / Performing and tuning SQL queries with large datasets (billion-plus records) / Working with modern data technology, aggregation tools and relational databases / Instrumentation & tracking of Google Tag Manager and Google Analytics / Experience overseeing or working closely with machine learning (AI functions a plus)
