As the Director of Data, Analytics, you’ll lead Analytics at Updater, the team that embeds across all product areas alongside our Product, Design, and Engineering teams to define, evaluate, and grow our core product across all verticals. You’ll be a key member of Data team leadership, steering your team to foster strong cross-functional collaboration and leverage best-in-class data science methodologies that deliver outsized business impact and user experiences. Your goal is to lead your team to deliver better business outcomes and moving experiences for everyone who uses Updater.

About the Role

  • Lead, mentor, and grow a world-class Analytics team (currently 2, ideally growing to 10+ within 2 years).
  • Be a senior thought leader at the company who amplifies business growth by establishing a culture of data science excellence, and bringing your team’s skills to bear as a critical partner in all aspects of our business.
  • Collaborate with senior leadership on initiatives to grow the company across multiple verticals simultaneously.
  • Introduce, expand, and guide novel approaches to data analysis and insight-based decision making as a data science domain expert for the company.
  • Democratize data-driven decision making by arming all Updateers with the education, guidance, and tools needed to turn data into information and deploy it to maximize their impact.

About You

  • Management: Experience managing a cross-functional Analytics team with a focus on career growth, psychological safety and performance. 
  • Humility: You are low-ego, and have a strong sense of empathy. You have an informed point of view, but aren’t afraid to be proven wrong — and are open to trying new tools, techniques and methodologies best to most efficiently and impactfully solve problems
  • Strong communication: you’re as comfortable talking with our VP of Product Operations as you are with our Director of API Engineering.
  • Comfortable with ambiguity: you’re used to being asked open-ended questions and whittling them down to questions that can be answered by hard data.
  • Cross-functional: Experience building process and driving alignment across multiple stakeholders (Product, Engineering, Design, Marketing, Sales, Success, etc.)
  • 8+ years experience in Analytics or related field.
  • Expert knowledge of statistics.
  • Strong Python and SQL skills.
  • Experience with modern reporting tools (Looker, Metabase, Superset, etc).

Bonus Points For

  • Experience productizing a recommendation engine.
