As we continue to expand, we are seeking a dynamic and visionary Director of Data Engineering to provide direction to our data engineering team and shape our data infrastructure.  This role will report directly to the Senior Director of Data Strategy, collaborating closely to align data engineering initiatives with the company's strategic goals. This leadership role will require effective communication, strong managerial skills, and the ability to influence cross-functional teams.

What you’ll do:

Team Building and Leadership:

  • Build and develop a high-performing team of data engineers to support business intelligence analysts and data scientists in their day-to-day operations.
  • Provide mentorship, guidance, and career development opportunities to the data engineering team.
  • Foster a culture of collaboration, innovation, and continuous improvement within the data engineering function.

Data Infrastructure Strategy:

  • Define and execute a long-term data infrastructure strategy that aligns with the company's overall goals and aspirations.
  • Drive the design, implementation, and maintenance of scalable, reliable, and efficient data systems and pipelines.
  • Identify emerging technologies and industry best practices to enhance the data engineering capabilities and support innovation.

Data Governance and Quality:

  • Establish and enforce data governance policies and procedures to ensure data accuracy, consistency, and compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Collaborate with data stakeholders across the organization to identify and address data quality issues and establish data integrity throughout the data lifecycle.

Collaboration and Partnership:

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including engineering, devops, data science and business intelligence, to enable data-driven decision-making, products and features.
  • Develop sound relationships with external partners, vendors, and data providers to enhance data capabilities and access new data sources.

What you have:

  • Proven experience (5+ years) in a leadership role, managing and growing a team of data engineers.
  • Bachelor's or master's degree in computer science, data engineering, or a related field. Advanced degree preferred.
  • Understanding of data engineering concepts, technologies, and best practices, including data modeling, ETL/ELT processes, data warehousing, and data integration.
  • Proficiency in programming languages commonly used in data engineering, such as Python, SQL, and Spark
  • Hands-on experience with cloud-based data platforms, such as Amazon Web Services (AWS), Google Cloud Platform (GCP), or Microsoft Azure.
  • Knowledge of data governance, data quality, and data security principles.
  • Proven track record of successfully delivering large-scale data engineering projects on time and within budget.

Where you’ll live:

  • Anywhere in the U.S., this is a remote position with occasional travel to our headquarters in Atlanta, GA
