About the role:

Our Data Platform team is seeking a strong leader as our Director of Data Platform to take our foundational data capability to the next level at Cameo.

In this role, you will be responsible for managing a team of backend and data engineers.  This team is responsible for our in-house behavioral events instrumentation and collection systems, our ETL and data pipeline infrastructure, and our streaming events platform.

You will report to the VP of Data and will be an integral member of the leadership team of Cameo’s Data Organization.  You will also work closely with other engineering leaders to ensure that our data platform is meeting the needs of the engineers who build on top of it.  Other key cross-functional stakeholders include our Analytics Engineering team, which transforms and models the data downstream of the Data Platform team, and the Data Science and Machine Learning teams, who are ultimate consumers of the data.  You will balance a consultative approach with a passion for diving deep into the technical details.

This role is at the heart of making data successful at Cameo. You will have strong data and problem-solving skills, a willingness to roll-up your sleeves and get into the data and tech stack, and interpersonal skills to work cross-functionally and drive forward recommendations.

What you’ll be doing:

• Serve as an integral part of the Data Org’s leadership team.
• Be the go-to expert for Cameo’s data infrastructure.  Build and evangelize a roadmap for this infrastructure and how it can contribute to building data-powered products at Cameo.
• Collaborate with your analytics engineering, data science, and machine learning peers to ensure that collected data is reliable, verified, and consumable.
• Partner with your engineering peers to ensure that our data infrastructure is best-in-class and meets their needs.
• Continue to build out this team; hire, manage and coach talented individuals to make this team a world-class data platform powerhouse.

What you bring to the table:

• 8+ years of experience with data-intensive systems and scalable, resilient backend systems
• Experience working on, deploying, and managing large scale systems in Java, Python or other similar languages.
• Experience and deep understanding of Kafka or other messaging, queuing and stream processing concepts or systems such as Kafka-Stream, Spark.
• Familiarity with the architecture of event collection pipelines and analytical data stores such as Snowflake.
• Our tech stack is built on AWS and includes, in addition to Kafka and Snowflake, MongoDb, Airflow, Kubernetes, and Terraform.  The more of these technologies you have deep experience with, the better.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, as well as the ability to influence the broader engineering org when it comes to matters of data.
• Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work with various cross-functional stakeholder groups at various levels.  Demonstrated experience working with data science stakeholders.
• You have the drive to build a world-class data platform function
• You hold yourself and others to a high bar when working with production systems
• Humility and compassion.  You take pride in your work and enjoy working with fun people
