To achieve this vision, we’re looking for a talented Director of Software Engineering with a background in data intensive software  to lead our Data Platform software group. 

Our Data Platform group is responsible for the software to support data at FLYR.   All of FLYR’s  software development and data science teams depend on the data models, pipelines, and tools owned by our Data Platform team to bring leading-edge ML-based products to market.   Our Data Platform group manages the processes and tools to manage our core product data models  and evolve our warehouse data model to support product feature evolution.  As a software tools team, the group owns schema change management and the standardized frameworks for data quality systems and  data pipelines used across FLYR, and the tools used by our customer-facing Delivery teams to build customer data pipelines and ingest new customer data.    

Our Data Platform group works on mission-critical projects that have an instant meaningful impact for FLYR’s core product, Cirrus, into production for reputable airline brands.  

This is a key leadership role in our product software engineering organization.   Successful leaders in this role will develop strong cross-functional relationships with peer managers and product leaders to understand FLYR’s product evolution and to deliver on a Data Platform software product roadmap that can support the future needs of multiple teams within FLYR.

This role is remote-flexible, but our ideal candidate would be in Los Angeles, California

What will your destination look like at FLYR?

    • Grow and lead a new organization within FLYR of approximately 20 software engineers across three scrum teams in the United States and Krakow Poland.  
    • Directly hire managers and senior technical leaders in your organization. 
    • Lead an organization of software engineers, data architects, and analysts. 
    • Provide technical mentorship and training, and promote success in their career path at FLYR. 
    • Partner closely with product management to define and execute on a product roadmap for the development of software frameworks and tools for data management. Lead your organization in delivering enhancements to FLYR’s data platform needed to support new product features. 
    • Define processes and build tools to support onboarding and ingest of new data sources, and support and coordinate with customer implementation team managers in standardization of practices and processes on data pipelines.   
    • Coordinate with DevOps and Site Reliability teams on defining infrastructure requirements and practices for production data pipelines. 
    • Advocate for and lead process improvement within our fast-growing engineering organization. 

What should you bring on this trip?

    • Experienced people leader. Previous experience as an engineering manager leading a high caliber team
    • Experience as an engineering manager leading development teams delivering complex software products and tools
    • Experience in planning a roadmap of initiatives against execution capacity
    • Ability to clearly communicate status, blockers, risks and dependencies to peer managers  and executive stakeholders. Experience operating software and data services in production.  Must have experience leading software development on a SaaS product or service delivery environment
    • Experience managing distributed
    • Excellence in leadership, team building and people management skills
