EnergyHub is working to enable a carbon-free, distributed energy future by seamlessly integrating enormous numbers of energy devices with the electric power grid. Our platform coordinates and collects terabytes of data from what will soon be more than 1,000,000 distributed energy devices like thermostats, electric vehicles and batteries. 

Coordinating all of these devices to forecast and deliver grid services for the electricity industry requires state-of-the-art data science, control systems and machine learning. As such, EnergyHub seeks to hire an Energy Data Scientist to join EnergyHub’s Data Science and Power Systems Intelligence team. As an Energy Data Scientist you will work closely with some of the brightest minds in the electricity industry to solve some of the most difficult problems in distributed energy. The algorithms and data management software systems that you contribute to will become core to the foundation of a future with carbon-free and distributed energy.

Main Responsibilities

  • Drive the development of algorithms and software tools for enabling advanced grid services from fleets of distributed energy resources
  • Write production-level code, prototype new data products, and apply machine learning algorithms to energy IoT data
  • Work to translate data from one of the largest distributed energy datasets in the electricity industry into actionable insights for electric utilities and other energy industry stakeholders
  • Work closely with stakeholders inside and outside of EnergyHub including Data Engineering, Client Success, Marketing, Sales, Product, and Market Development teams

Key Skills and Experience

  • A passion for enabling a carbon-free, distributed energy future
  • Ability to find valuable insights in large, complex datasets
  • Experience with Python and the scientific stack (pandas, numpy, scipy)
  • A practical understanding of basic machine learning algorithms and are familiar with popular software packages such as Sklearn and Tensorflow
  • Ability to explain results from large-scale data analyses to diverse audiences in a way that is clear, interesting and actionable
  • You have fun working on really hard problems with really smart people

Preferred Skills and Experience

  • Power systems expertise, including three-phase distribution network modeling
  • Experience developing control and optimization solutions for distributed energy resource problems
  • Experience with scaling data science products in the cloud (e.g., Databricks, AWS, GCP, Azure)
  • A strong background in mathematics and statistics 
  • Experience bringing long-term research projects, such as an MS or PhD thesis, to a successful conclusion

The salary range for this position is $120,000 - $150,000. Base pay offered may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills and experience.
