Our Machine Learning team is look for an Engineering Manager to help build cutting-edge systems for our mission to map and monitor the planet's forests.

Your team is responsible for researching and implementing novel ways to measure forest properties (e.g. biomass). Your products will be judged by their accuracy and certainty across forests, project types, and biomes. You are directly responsible for technical roadmap and development along with leading a small, but mighty, team. You will be accountable for constructing milestones, ensuring delivery to those milestones, and enabling team growth.

We're looking for engineers who find joy in the craft of building and want to make an impact. Engineers who push forward initiatives by asking great questions, cutting through ambiguity, and organizing to win. Engineers who are relentlessly detail-oriented, methodical in their approach to understanding trade-offs, place the highest emphasis on building, and building quickly.

Position is remote but company meetings are scheduled for Pacific time zone.

You must excel at:

    • Planning: Translate vision to roadmap while involving team. Sets team OKRs to translate business OKRs to team goals. Maintains a prioritized backlog of roadmap items with PM.
    • Team Building: Build high-performing team through hiring, retrospectives, giving and taking high-quality feedback, and creates a sense of belonging with all team members.
    • Execution: Communicate project milestones, statuses, risks, blockers, decisions, delays, keep things moving, and maintain a high-quality bar.

You should excel at:

    • Systems Design: Experience building distributed systems, services, and architecture.
    • Hiring: Experience designing hiring processes and interviewing candidates.
    • Communication: Able to communicate effectively. Builds sync and async processes to establish information flow. Celebrates team successes.

Bonus

    • Technical Excellence: Contribute to technical work and lead cross-functional projects.
    • Structure: Runs effective meetings and maintains prioritized backlog of roadmap work for the team. Set ups regular 1:1s and staff meetings.
