About the Role:  

Planet is seeking an Engineering Manager to lead our Data Pipeline team for our SkySat satellite constellation imagery. Our Data Pipeline team processes vast quantities of satellite image data into beautiful, visual products that provide scientifically useful analytics and actionable information. The group is responsible for taking millions of images a day from downlink to customer workflows. The work of the Data Pipeline team is performed at scale and affects millions of images and terabytes of data.

• Managing and organizing multiple parallel projects and priorities
• Leading and growing a distributed team of software engineers
• Opportunity to lead work on a new processing pipeline

What You Bring:

• 5+ years of industry experience, including 2+ years as a manager responsible for software engineers, and at least 4 years of hands-on experience as a software engineer
• Proven track record of delivering project results on schedule
• Knowledge of current software development and deployment best practices
• Experience with successfully engaging and collaborating with distributed teams
• Knowledge of how to scale code with cloud computing resources, e.g. AWS or GCP
• A passion for Programming, Photography, Remote Sensing, Earth Sciences, and Geography

What Makes You Stand Out:

• 3+ years of experience writing software to manipulate geospatial data
• Extensive knowledge of GDAL and other open-source GIS tools
• Experience leveraging scientific computing using Python in a Unix/Linux environment
• Experience writing production code in Python

Compensation:

The US base salary range for this full-time position at the commencement of employment is $124,000 - $203,000.  Additionally, this role might be eligible for discretionary short-term and long-term incentives (bonus and equity). The final salary range is determined by job related experience, skills and location.  The range displays our typical hiring range for new hire salaries in US locations only.  Your recruiter can share more about the specific salary range for your preferred location during the hiring process.
