The anticipated salary range for this role is between $79,000.00 and $95,000.00. The specific salary offered to an applicant will be based on their individual qualifications, experiences, and an analysis of the current compensation paid in their geography and the market for similar roles at the time of hire. The role may also be eligible for an annual discretionary incentive award. In addition to cash compensation, SMBC offers a competitive portfolio of benefits to its employees.

SUMMARY:

We are seeking a highly analytical and detail-oriented Fraud Strategy Analyst to join our team. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in data analytics, fraud management, and excellent communication skills. This role requires a proactive individual who can work collaboratively with cross-functional teams to design and implement effective fraud strategies, ensuring compliance and improving key fraud metrics.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILTIES:

  • Improve core metrics related to fraud rate, incidents, charged-off dollars, and customer experience from vintage to vintage; track and respond when metrics signal improvement opportunities.
  • Partner with Engineering, Product, and Operations teams to conceive, design, and monitor fraud strategies to mitigate fraud risk in the most precise manner possible.
  • Analyze incoming data for changes in existing fraud trends and identify new fraud trends.
  • Identify and explore new approaches, data sources/vendors and potential partnerships to support improvements to existing and new programs; implement these tools as needed.
  • Partner with fraud operations team to execute the fraud risk policy and procedures.
  • Ensure compliance with policies and requirements for internal and external auditors for all assigned responsibilities.
  • Manage all process improvements and enhancements within area of responsibility, including evaluation of efficiency and effectiveness, cost-benefit analysis, process mapping, workflow analyses and process re-engineering.
  • Maintain dashboards to track fraud loss rates by fraud types.
  • Prepare and communicate department level reporting regarding volumes, effectiveness, and project updates, especially in support of merger/conversion activities.
  • Serve as subject matter expert and provide guidance and oversight to peers within Enterprise Fraud Management as well as other business units.

POSITION SPECIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree, or equivalent education and related experience
  • Demonstrated Proficiency Python and or R
  • Excellent analytical and critical thinking skills and ability to make sound and rational decisions with limited supervision
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, ability to communicate effectively with senior leaders.
  • Ability and willingness to work flexible hours, and travel on an as needed basis.
  • Proven leadership and team building skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in application and transaction fraud management in consumer lending or banking.
  • Minimum Bachelor’s Degree in a quantitative field such as Finance, Economics, Mathematics, Computer Science or equivalent.
  • Fraud strategy experience preferred. 
  • Highly Analytical
  • Detail orientation but able to still see the ‘forest.’
  • Experience with BI tools (Tableau / Looker)
  • Proficient with data analytics tools such as SQL, R, Python
