Head of Data Governance

Over the past few years, Abercrombie & Fitch has made a considerable investment in advancing its digital, technology, data, and analytics capabilities.  Our vision is to transform our data into a strategic asset that will help us better understand our customers and provide them with a more memorable, seamless experience.

To successfully do this, we need a seasoned Head of Data Governance to establish a universal set of standards and best practices for how we collect and use our data across the enterprise.  As Head of Data Governance, you will be responsible for establishing and ensuring adherence to an enterprise data governance framework for data policies, standards, and practices across business functions to achieve consistency, quality, and protection of our data asset.

The Head of Data Governance will serve as the central point of communication for data governance, data quality and protection issues and will work closely with functional leadership to improve the quality and value of core data assets.  This includes ensuring (a) velocity and veracity of data between systems, (b) compliance with global regulatory bodies (CCPA, GDPR, etc.) and (c) staying ahead of the industry on cybersecurity standards.

Additionally, the Head of Data Governance will be responsible for developing a data-driven decision-making framework and promoting data literacy throughout the organization in collaboration with the business functions.  This will be done through the establishment of a data academy program and the buildout of ongoing organizational education curriculum to ensure an evidence-based approach is being used in all strategic decision making.

Cross-functional collaboration is critical in this role, as you will work directly with Technology, Marketing, Sales, Operations & Support, Legal, and other A&F cross-functional teams on implementing data governance tools and best practices to increase trust across the organization.

  • Create and maintain DG policies, playbook(s), processes, procedures for guiding various data management processes, including adoption of data security and privacy, data quality control and data dissemination activities
  • Champions the value of information as a strategic business asset and revenue generator by providing the functional business teams with ideas and promoting those ideas into action
  • Leads the development and implementation of communication, learning, change management and adoption plans to increase organization-wide data literacy
  • Establish and govern an enterprise-wide data governance, data quality and data management roadmap, including necessary IT solutions and/or external services such as data catalogue, data monitoring and remediation

  • Align data management practices with regulatory requirements

What Do You Need To Bring?

  • 8+ years of experience working in a data governance function in a large enterprise with a minimum of 4 years in a management / oversight role
  • 5+ years of experience collaborating with cross-functional teams, leading cross-functional coordination, and team communications to deliver an array of data product offerings
  • 3+ years of experience in cloud computing (AWS, Azure, GCP), including working through cloud migrations from on-prem systems
  • Extensive experience working with data governance tools including (but not limited to) Alation, Informatica, Collibra, etc.
  • Background knowledge of business intelligence/reporting tools (e.g. Power BI, Tableau, etc.) with related experience analyzing data as well as writing queries and reports.
  • Prior experience working on Microsoft Azure stack is preferred
  • Strong communication skills with translating technology to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Excellent collaborator; able to communicate with all levels of the organization.
