Here at Virta, we rely heavily on Data and Analytics to make decisions about our business and product, as well as to demonstrate our value to our customers and accurately collect revenue.  We collect and organize disparate forms of data from both internal and external sources to generate insightful reports and do complex analyses to understand what’s truly driving outcomes. As the leader of Virta’s Insights & Analytics team, you’ll leverage our vast data assets to develop metrics, and deliver insights. This work will enable Virta to constantly improve our product, understand our business, and fuel our growth. In this role, you‘ll hire and mentor data scientists and business analysts, create scalable insight-generation systems,  and support continuous experimentation and improvement. You’ll also partner with stakeholders across Virta to define key performance indicators and consistently interpret objective results for executives. As a key member of the senior management team, you’ll work directly with leaders across the company to create clarity and build alignment by utilizing data to inform and drive decision making. 

Responsibilities

  • People - Build, lead and scale Virta’s Insights & Analytics team (currently ~9 teammates)
    • Hiring directors and managers, including iterating on the process of sourcing and hiring great talent
    • Strong at attracting great talent
    • Creating new systems and structures to more effectively manage and scale I&A resources Virta-wide
    • Build a culture of deep, embedded collaboration between I&A team members and functional teams.
  • I&A Team Strategy - Continue to iterate on Virta’s I&A approach and organization
    • Leverage analytics to ingratiate a deep sense of empathy for the end user in the cross-functional product development process
    • Build measurable metrics that enable squads to align individual product roadmaps with company strategy and goals
    • Partner with Engineering and Applied AI team leaders to establish data infrastrastructure strategy and data governance procedures
  • Execution
    • Own the production and surfacing of metrics used for data-driven decision making, including measurement, KPI definitions, and managing our BI platform/dashboards (Looker)
    • Manage and improve the company KPI dashboard, including partnering with cross-functional stakeholders and executives to define metrics, targets, and drive regular review of goals versus actuals
    • Implement analytics best practices to ensure high quality,  predictable data as we rapidly scale
    • Continue to build and own the Virta data dictionary 
    • Build strong relationships and systems to understand cross-functional business needs, build stakeholder alignment, and make the appropriate tradeoffs on roadmaps

90 Day Plan

Within your first 90 days at Virta, we expect you will do the following:

  • Define your 1 year strategic and operating plan with the team, including alignment with senior executives 
  • Drive critical-path initiative: Scale how we design, implement, and analyze product experiments as well as estimate KPI impact of future product initiatives to inform roadmap tradeoffs
  • Partner with Product, Engineering, Design, Analytics and Applied AI to use data to iterate on product development roadmaps
  • Build and rollout new analytics prioritization and development processes that enable impactful and rapid iteration
  • Establish strong relationships with the technology team leaders and the cross-functional tech and ops team leads 
  • Have a meaningful impact on team expansion and employee growth & development through improving hiring processes, mentoring current teammates and adding leaders to the team

Must-Haves

  • 7+ years of experience building, managing and leading analytics organizations in a fast growth environment:
    • Experience in rapid growth and building teams
    • Excellent emotional intelligence, self-awareness, empathy, and trust/ relationship-building skills 
    • Experience partnering with engineering to build scalable back end systems
    • Strong preference for prior health care experience, in particular claims analysis
  • Bias for action, with a proven track record of execution and shipping both new analytics features and entirely new data products that drive business impact
  • Customer obsessed: you love deeply understanding patient/user/customer needs and lead teams and vision from the customer point of view
  • Excels when working cross-functionally to problem-solve, drive alignment on hard tradeoffs, and execute on solutions 
  • Experience in building analytics systems and processes, preferably in a fast growing company
  • Ability to plan and drive complex projects with accurate estimation and timely execution
  • Proactive and collaborative working style that builds trust and alignment, including excellent proactive communication skills
  • ​​Proven track record of bringing energy and creative problem solving to difficult situations
