SemanticBits is looking for a talented Data Analytics Engineer who is eager to use their skills to rapidly turn big data into insights for healthcare analysts working at the national level. You will be a senior member of an Agile team delivering a Business Intelligence (BI) and Data Warehouse (DW) solution using AWS services and open-source technologies.

Responsibilities:

    • Apply dimensional modeling best practices to design an enterprise DW
    • Provide data modeling guidance to line-of-business contributors to the enterprise DW and fellow analytics engineers
    • Participate in enterprise data governance activities
    • Configure, optimize, and troubleshoot the DW to meet performance and scalability needs
    • Provide guidance on the most effective use of data marts within the BI solution
    • Contribute to data warehouse documentationUse open-source software and AWS services to automate data warehouse transformations over big data sets
    • Provide guidance to DevOps team for maintaining database performance by identifying and resolving production and application development problems, calculating optimum values for database parameters, evaluating, integrating, and installing new releases, performing maintenance, and answering user questions

Qualifications:

    • At least 3 years in a DBA or data architect role
    • Significant experience with AWS Redshift and one or more BI tools (e.g. Tableau, MicroStrategy, Looker, Apache Superset)
    • Strong understanding of relational database and data warehousing concepts (e.g. OLAP, dimensional modeling)
    • Very strong SQL query skills
    • Must be able to effectively use a query planner and database metrics to analyze and optimize queries, table structure, indices, and partitioning strategies.
    • Strong problem solving and structuring skills
    • Strong technical communication skills; both written and verbal
    • Ability to understand and articulate the "big picture" and simplify complex ideas
    • Ability to identify and learn applicable new techniques independently as needed
    • Candidate must reside in the United States
    • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science strongly preferred and a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience or a Master’s degree with a minimum of 3 years experience
    • Flexible and willing to accept a change in priorities as necessary

Preferred Qualifications:

    • AWS Certified Data Analytics - Specialty
    • Experience with EMR, Spark, and DBT
    • Prior experience working with Medicare and/or Medicaid data
    • Prior experience working remotely full-time
    • Federal Government contracting work experience

Physical and emotional requirements for the job:

    • This position is to be performed remotely from an individual’s home office and involves sedentary work. Employees in this role can be expected to exert up to 10 pounds of force on occasion in order to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move standard electronic equipment. Employees are expected to make decisions in a timely manner and display emotional intelligence during occasional stressful situations.
