About the role

We’re looking for a Lead Machine Learning Engineer to spearhead the creation of our MLE function and team at Lovevery. This person will build out systems to optimize content-rich customer experiences and reduce uncertainty around marketing and e-commerce decisions. As a Lead ML Engineer you will guide decisions on what data Lovevery collects across our digital platforms, and will build core systems to ingest, process, and store this data. You'll be responsible for leveraging this data to productionize end-to-end ML pipelines to deliver mission critical predictions, recommendations, and insights. You will benefit from working with a cutting edge data, technology, and content platform to establish data-driven ML services as a core pillar in our mission to provide optimal customer-facing experiences via all digital channels, including our Mobile App.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver as an individual contributor on day 1, while creating the strategic version and executing on a longer-term plan to build a world-class Machine Learning Engineering team
  • Establish and implement best practices for the end-to-end productionization of machine learning systems, including the feature generation pipelines to feed the core ML models, as well as the APIs to deliver predictions in real time.
  • Monitor feature generation pipelines and model predictions in a rapidly evolving digital ecosystem.
  • Investigate data quality issues, and provide triage recommendations to development teams to help ensure stability and accuracy of machine learning model predictions.
  • Lead the ML engineering function in breaking down high level requirements, organizing project backlog, and sprint planning.
  • Work collaboratively with data scientists and data engineers in our Databricks environment, performing code reviews and other quality assurance activities.
  • Collaborate with data engineers and data scientists to identify, capture, and leverage new internal and external data sources.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Mathematics, Data Science, or related field (advanced degree preferred).
  • 6+ years experience working in software engineering, ML engineering, or similar field.
  • 3+ years of experience building and maintaining machine learning systems.
  • 3+ years experience writing production code in Python.
  • Highly skilled in a standard query language (any variant of relational SQL).
  • Experience with cloud based ELT/ETL (AWS, GCP).
  • Well versed in Spark / EMR variants (ideally Databricks, DeltaLake, and PySpark).
  • Experience building core technologies in a high-growth startup environment.
  • Experience with mobile app data collection and content delivery.
  • Experience in e-commerce, subscription, or content recommendation domains.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
