About the role

This role will act as a bridge between analysts, engineers, product managers, business stakeholders, and more to ensure that the business is supplied with clean, actionable data. This can range from reporting on department or business level KPI’s to translating complex analytics models into automated exploration templates for business users to better understand how they can be effective in their roles.

About you

  • Organized Communicator: able to gather, interpret, and document business requirements and translate them into engineering roadmap items.
  • Scalable Mindset: excited about helping to create a world-class data platform that scales easily and prioritizes the end user.
  • Full Pipeline Perspective: eager to develop a deep understanding of what factors drive business success, what metrics need to be surfaced to support those factors, and how to derive those metrics from raw data.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate on building end-to-end reporting solutions, from identifying and connecting raw data sources to delivering actionable insights through visual storytelling.
  • Transform raw data to a globally consolidated, intelligent design scheme on Databricks Delta using DBT
  • Use platform best practices for fast, efficient queries.
  • Test for transformation accuracy, anomalies, and relational integrity at every step in the pipeline.
  • Create transformations that favor readability and cleanliness over abstraction or consolidation.
  • Create clear, insightful, automated visualizations and reports that provide visibility into business performance, issues, and opportunities.
  • Tackle multiple domains of data transformation and reporting, including revenue recognition, email metrics, website and mobile app analysis, customer retention, marketing efficiency, and more.
  • Translate complex ad-hoc analytical models into templated transformations that users can access and explore easily.
  • Proactively gather business data requirements and translate them into engineering and analytic initiatives.
  • Support power users throughout the business in owning their data and learning how to surface reporting using the tools you build.
  • Establish and promote a single source of truth for business term definitions and calculations through documentation and proactive stakeholder communication.
  • Implement extensive monitoring, testing, and alerting in a data and reporting platform to ensure accuracy and freshness.

Qualifications

  • Experience building out production datasets and a proven ability to implement key industry data warehousing techniques on a new technology such as Delta Lakehouse or other cloud-based platform. (3-5+ years)
  • Advanced understanding of automating data transformations using SQL or PySpark, preferably with a tool like DBT. (3+ years)
  • Experience with configuration and macro writing within DBT for code consolidation.
  • Mastery of one or more Business Intelligence platforms, such as Looker, Tableau, or PowerBI. (3+ years)
  • History of building testing and alerting into reporting systems that proactively identifies issues and opportunities.
  • Strong communication skills regarding highly technical concepts with stakeholders at multiple levels of business, including:
  • Presenting analytical insights to department heads and executives.
  • Teaching business users how to explore and ‘own’ their data in Looker.
  • Familiar with reporting requirements of organizations in the e-commerce space, specifically related to customer retention, marketing optimization, and website/mobile app tracking.
  • Comfortable with shared code version control systems like Git.

Our Benefits Include

  • Competitive salary, benefits, and stock options package
  • The usual paid holidays and a few extras (ex. Election day)
  • Paid maternity or paternity leave
  • MacBooks are our standard, but we’re happy to get you whatever equipment helps you get your job done
