The role

As an intern on Newsela’s Learning Team, you will partner closely with the Lead Research Analyst to help build an understanding of and drive towards Newsela’s educational effectiveness. You will leverage your statistical and data visualization expertise to develop reports that showcase how students’ usage of Newsela is related to learning outcomes. This role is a great opportunity for a current graduate student or early-career researcher to apply and develop their technical and science communication skills in an industry setting while answering questions that have real-world implications for students across the United States.

  • You have research experience in any of the following fields: learning analytics / educational data mining, education, psychology, communications, child development, cognitive science, or related field
  • You have fluency using R for statistical analysis and data visualization (especially tidyverse)
  • You possess fundamental statistics knowledge and skills

  • You have background or interest in educational research

Bonus points for:

  • Experience writing SQL queries
  • Familiarity with markdown syntax (e.g., Rmarkdown)
  • Experience preparing data visualizations for audiences with varying data literacy

The internship will take place during Summer 2023 and will be fully remote. This role can be part-time or full-time, depending on candidate interest and availability. Total compensation will be based on hours worked at a rate of $35/hour. The benefits listed below apply to full-time employees only.
