Summary:

The Machine Learning (ML) Engineer will own the data and machine learning processes for the recommender systems company-wide and particularly for Age of Learning’s flagship product, ABCMouse. These recommender systems are the foundation for providing our young users with personalized, adaptive learning experiences geared toward high engagement and high efficacy. Working collaboratively with analysts and researchers, the ML Engineer will determine the data needs for analyses and ML models; communicate with stakeholders to obtain requirements; build systems to automate ML model training and endpoint maintenance; explore and determine and execute optimal model design and ensure end-to-end delivery of data and ML functionality.  

Responsibilities:

    • Collaborate closely with stakeholders to understand data and ML requirements 
    • Understand and implement ML functionality for a wide range of applications 
    • Create and own Snowflake data marts to support analytics and ML data needs, including building and maintaining data integrations, performing data transformations, and monitoring data quality and completeness 
    • Propose creative solutions for product personalization needs 
    • Explore and conduct analysis to understand the performance of ML models and determine strategies for maintenance and improvement 
    • Propose and implement features that improve our products 
    • Evangelize our data and ML capabilities to stakeholders

Required Qualifications:

    • Fluent in complex SQL queries on large data sets. 
    • Loves to manipulate and explore data, perform analysis, and create visualizations using Python. 
    • Expert at training, evaluating, deploying, and maintaining ML models using Python on AWS. 
    • Proactive thinker who enjoys proposing ML projects and then delivers 
    • Passion for dimensional modeling in a data warehouse 
    • Excited to leverage modularity and abstraction to accomplish amazing things 
    • Able to understand and analyze data, synthesizing large volumes of data and complex questions into clear analyses and actionable findings 
    • Bachelor's degree in a quantitative field (such as analytics, statistics, applied math, data science, economics, or computer science) from four-year college or university;  
    • OR a Bachelor’s degree in a non-quantitative field AND a Master’s degree in a quantitative field 
    • Curious, motivated, self-starter, collaborative, respectful, team player  
    • Excellent attention to detail 
    • Exemplary communication skills (both written and oral) 
    • Can work iteratively, defining requirements as needed 
    • Comfortable multi-tasking and working in a fast-paced, dynamic environment  

Preferred Qualifications:

    • Experience with recommender systems
    • Familiarity with video game design 
    • Experience in EdTech
