ABOUT ROCKET MONEY 🔮

Rocket Money’s mission is to empower people to live their best financial lives. Rocket Money offers members a unique understanding of their finances and a suite of valuable services that save them time and money – ultimately giving them a leg up on their financial journey.

The analytics stack we have built has helped grow Rocket Money to over two million paying members. While we continue to rely on these tools, we've seen increasing headwinds that come with scale. Bigger and more complex queries, multiple joins across projects, and generally the challenges of having over 100 daily consumers pushing our analytics stack for answers. We've invested in building an Analytics Engineering team to create structure and good foundational patterns in our analytics stack that will allow us to scale in data volume, builders, and consumers, but we recognize there is more to do. We're looking for someone who has done this before and is excited about the challenge of helping a team grow from great to excellent.

This is a hybrid managerial role that is a mix of technical and people leadership. You'll get a chance to write code and know the inner operating details of the system, while also building out the operating system to enable the team to scale. You'll collaborate with colleagues on the data, engineering, product, and growth teams to ship scalable, reliable, and observable systems that the entire company can build upon and leverage.

ABOUT THE ROLE 🤹‍♀️

In this role, you will:

  • Manage the day to day responsibilities and development of 2 - 3 Analytics Engineers
  • Shepard the full lifecycle of a project including: scoping and requirements gathering, creating a project plan, guiding execution, and communicating outcomes
  • Incorporate static loads from disparate sources into a unified view for analytics and enjoy the challenge of modeling and unifying data across multiple rates
  • Proactively refine and improve our analytics engineering architecture and tooling stack with the end consumer in mind
  • Team with data engineering colleagues to solidify our production data organization and architecture
  • Work with Data Analysts to translate data questions into analytics engineering requirements that can be used to build value added data marts
  • Collaborate and coordinate with our Engineering and Product teams to identify how we should capture data produced by our app, as well as implement changes we are making to existing data
  • Work with the analytics engineering team to take our dbt implementation to the next level. Apply common patterning and best practices to our aggregate and reporting layers

ABOUT YOU 🦄

  • You have 2+ years of experience managing a small team in the analytics/data space
  • You have spent the last few years working in the analytics stack of a high-growth company and are familiar with the growing set of analytics tooling solutions. You want to help evolve a company to the next level of maturity
  • You see the value of accurate documentation as one of the keys to scaling and are a strong written communicator
  • You have production experience with some portions of our analytics stack (BigQuery/GCP, Fivetran, dbt, Looker, Mode)
  • Experience partnering with analytics teams, business stakeholders, and engineers to deliver analytics solutions for both internal and external consumers
  • It is second nature breaking down a complex problem into specific tasks and creating a plan for how to tackle those tasks
  • You have strong opinions on how to handle PII and operate from a consumer privacy and security first mindset
