Manager, Data Engineering

The focus of the Manager, Data Engineering is leading, empowering, and contributing to a high-performing team of Data Engineers. The Manager, Data Engineering spends equal amounts of time between leading/managing the team and contributing to the team as an engineer. The greater Data Engineering team is devoted to acquiring, modeling, and optimizing data from various sources that are found in the Healthcare ecosystem. Data Engineering Managers are not only well versed in the technical and business details of the ecosystem, but also thrive as leaders and communicators, working across multiple teams and groups to solve problems while mentoring and growing other Data Engineers. This role will have 4 to 6 data engineers whom they will have direct accountability for their development and productivity across various agile teams.


Essential Functions

  • Work as a player coach to a team of data engineers working across agile teams (50/50 split of contributing and coaching)
  • Collaborates with team to execute tactical implementation of strategic technology roadmap
  • Conducts weekly coaching with individual engineers on team to guide them on their professional development
  • Designs and builds services to meet business needs in a performant manner
  • Evolves the Strive Health data platform through Data Mesh architectural principles in concert with engineering leadership
  • Ensures data engineering team contributes to the Technology strategic roadmap
  • Holds data engineering leadership accountable to our stated intentions and ensures we are all living our culture
  • Mentors and grows your team through project partnership and leading team initiatives
  • Communicates tactfully across various stakeholders and groups to gather information and present findings
  • Partners with technology, business, and clinical teams to design and deliver scalable data solutions
  • Meet in person with internal and/or external stakeholders to facilitate team and business priorities/opportunities. 


Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or related field
  • Deep understanding of the importance of culture (both company and engineering team) and are highly protective of it
  • 3 years’ experience with Extract, Transform and Load (ETL) concepts and processes, database principles, and other related tools and technologies
  • 1 years’ experience leading teams or highly complex projects of cross-functional team
  • Intermediate to advanced level experience with at least one RDBMS and query language. (SQL Server, PostgreSQL, MySQL, etc.)
  • 2 years’ experience working with structured and unstructured data using Big Data Technologies
  • 3 years’ experience with programming languages such as Python, C#, or Java
  • Business travel

Preferred Qualifications

  • 2 years’ experience working with data in the healthcare clinical domain (claims and clinical data, FHIR data model, HL7 messages, CCD documents, etc.)
  • 1 years’ experience with development methodologies, including the AGILE development approaches
  • 1 years’ experience leading and influencing the data strategy of your team or organization

Annual Salary Range: $126,000.00-$154,000.00
