The Role

As a Principal Data Product Manager, you will define and execute the product vision and strategy, lead the end-to-end lifecycle of a product (ideation through sustainment), and identify market opportunities. You will manage the business (ROI) of data products as well as the functionality, design, and features. You will define and execute detailed roadmaps and product priorities based on a solid understanding of consumer needs and data science. The Principal Data Product Manager will influence, educate, and prioritize the tactical data science product backlog as well as the strategic decisions to enable the next slate of outstanding experiences for our customers.

What You'll Do

    • Be a strategic partner and work with business stakeholders to define high impact analytical problems and find innovative ways to solve these problems with data
    • Define and own overall product vision, strategy, and success metrics for key initiatives around data science and data engineering
    • Capture and analyze requests from teams across Product, Marketing, Content, Ads, Engineering, Finance, and other teams to define data needs and prioritize our roadmap
    • Partner closely with adjacent Product Managers to identify gaps and integrate TuneIn’s data solutions into our subscription funnel, recommendations engine, search interface, streaming audio players, and other internal systems
    • Identify requirements around real-time event ingestion and collection, A/B testing, user cohorts, plus other tooling and platform capabilities
    • Lead build versus buy decisions on key data proficiencies and conduct vendor evaluations
    • Collaborate with product managers, architects and engineers to craft solutions and present business cases to the executive team

What We Are Looking For

    • Bachelor’s degree or postgraduate education (MS or PhD) in an applied quantitative field or equivalent experience at a ground-breaking company
    • 10+ years of professional experience working in a Product, Technical Product, or Technical/Engineering role
    • Proven track record working directly with data systems in an engineering capacity or as a product manager interfacing directly with engineering teams in a high scale environment
    • Demonstrated experience as a product manager, ideally with a consumer technology product. Specific activities include: formulating product strategy, evaluating and prioritizing ideas, crafting business cases, defining product features, supervising development, and orchestrating product launch / releases
    • Familiar with traditional PM methodologies (e.g., Agile, Kanban, Waterfall, etc.) and knowledge of when to apply methodologies
    • Ability to communicate persuasive arguments, write clearly and concisely, listen attentively, and collaborate with partners to reach mutually beneficial outcomes
    • Deep understanding of statistical hypothesis testing and A/B methods
    • Proven experience leading multi-functional product squads and influencing without authority
    • Experienced with setting multi-quarter roadmaps around a strong product vision to guide the company forward
    • Very comfortable in understanding the inner workings of Data Infrastructure and Machine Learning model application to different analytical use cases
    • Have suffered under and now know how to handle and mitigate data quality issues that impact business-critical reporting and ML systems
    • A veteran of building data products and features across inception, delivery, maintenance, migration, and sunset
    • Experienced collaborating with non-technical partners to collect requirements and outwardly communicate the roadmap, status, impact, and value of work being done to a non-technical executive audience
